    Combine the sentences according to the type of sentence stated.


    11. I wished to see a doctor. I went to the General Hospital. (Simple Sentence)
    I went to the General Hospital to see a doctor.

    12. He has no money. He cannot afford to buy a new bicycle. (Simple Sentence)
    He has no money to buy a new bicycle.

    13. He switched off the light. He went out of the room. (Simple Sentence)
    Switching off the light, he went out of the room.

    14. He closed all the doors and windows. He went to sleep. (Simple Sentence)
    Closing all the doors and windows, he went to sleep.

    Construct at least 5 of each sentence type.


    Simple sentences

    1. The boys went to the park.


    2. John and Sam walked to school.
    3. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are my favourite.
    4. I saw a girl with blue eyes.
    5. Nixon will eat spaghetti or sandwich.

    Compound sentences

    1. Ginny researches her topic, so her information will be accurate.


    2. Sarah went to the beach and swam in the ocean.
    3. I will wash the dishes or I set the table.
    4. He worked hard yet he did not achieve high marks.
    5. She walks out from the room and then closes the door.
    Complex sentences

    1. As he was tired, he went to bed.


    2. I asked them why they looked sad.
    3. I liked to eat at Alles’s house since she is an excellent cook.
    4. I wake up at 6 o’clock in the morning every day because I didn’t want to
    be late.
    5. Sin Yee washes her clothes after she takes a bath.

    Compound-complex sentences

    1. James is popular because he is good-looking but he is not happy.


    2. He picked up the book that had fallen under the table after his teacher
    complained.
    3. While Jack reads comics, Doris reads novels, but Angel only reads
    newspaper.
    4. Although I like to go for jungle-trekking, I haven’t had the time to go
    lately, and I haven’t found anyone to go with.
    5. Because An Qi paid attention, she got a good result on the test and she
    was so happy.

    Write a short paragraph of 50-80 words on the topic of your choice.

    Jessy is a hardworking girl. (SS) She plans to go to the library this


    evening. (SS) She is already tired, yet she does not want to take a rest. (CdS)
    Not only that, she is a very patient girl too. (SS) She goes to the library by bus.
    (SS) Although the bus is late but she is not worried. (CdS) After half an hour,
