Industrial buildings in steel

BUILDINGS FOR
INDIVIDUAL PROCESSES

1. CLASSIFICATION steelworks with Martin kilns or with converters,

workshops for coke production etc

UNIVERSAL (FLEXIBLE)
DESTINATIONS

various kinds of industrial activities developed

or modified/changed during the service life of the building.
2. SPECIFIC FEATURES OF
INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS Regular shapes in plan
- rectangular
-oblong several rectangular interconnected

Mono-pitched or duo-pitched roof in transversal plane 3

Small slopes of the roof: under 300
Single storey buildings (rarely two stories or more)
Elements of the industrial steel buildings
TRANSVERSAL - THE SPAN
FRAMED STRUCTURE
LONGITUDINAL- THE BAY

COLUMNS
STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS:

RAFTERS (STEEL GIRDERS OR ROOF TRUSSES)

For buildings equipped with cranes the crane girders may be structural elements

• NON-STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS OF VARIOUS NATURE, STEEL, MASONRY, AND GLASS ROOF

• DECKING AND WALLS SHUTTING ARE MADE OF STEEL SHEETING OR SANDWICH PANELS

Different profile shapes of steel
sheeting used for roofing:
a)- corrugated; b)- with trough;
c)- deck trough; d) – deck
trough with tray; e) – build-up
deck

LAYOUT OF SHEETING-ACCESSORIES

Fastening methods for fixing the roof cladding:

a)- seam fastener with 6 mm dia. galvanized steel
bolt;
b) – purlin fastener with 8 mm dia. galvanized hook
bolt;
c)- seam fastener with self tapping screw;

C.Teleman_I.C.E._IV_LECTURE 1
STEEL STRUCTURES 3_
d)- purlin fastener with drive screw;
e)- seam fastener with blind rivet;
f) – purlin fastener with galvanized bolt and movable
hook;
g)- purlin fastener with stud welded bolt;
h)- purlin fastener with a sheet clip;
i)- purlin fastener with fired stud;
j)- purlin and insulation fastener with curtain wall stud

 Fastening continuously and with

adequate stiffness the roof sheeting is very
important because it insures the stability of
the purlins against lateral flexural instability 15
