Petrel – GeoX integration
Play and prospect assessment (PPA) complements existing Petrel Exploration Geology processes. It offers functionalities
for map-based play and prospect assessment, integrating workflows, from data to geologic analysis, to achieve
consistent and auditable assessment of exploration opportunities.
The goal is to expand the current Exploration Decision Support software by offering integrated assessment and
comparison of prospects in plays and part-plays, respective geological risk elements (chance of adequacy) and volumes
in Petrel. In 2016.1, PPA introduces conventional assessment, a key workflow to previous versions. The segment analysis
capability implemented in PPA replicates the non-depth dependent GeoX volume methods. The GeoX tools (risk models)
are integrated through the common GeoX database.
PPA has a one-way communication from Petrel to GeoX, therefore it can write assessment unit (AU) inputs and results
(geopolygon attributes) in the GeoX database. Through this communication, you can access PPA workflow limited data,
such as customer risk models and enabled distributions from the GeoX database.
Access to PPA assessments stored in the GeoX 2016 database is controlled by GeoX user rights, so the system provides
full security of exploration data and full traceability of exploration assessment workflows.
1. Standalone mode: for PPA users without a GeoX 2016 installation. Assessments are saved in Petrel.
2. GeoX mode: for PPA users with a GeoX 2016 installation. Assessments can be saved in the GeoX database and
also in Petrel.
Note: You can also choose standalone mode even if you have a GeoX 2016 installation. If you decide not to connect to
GeoX and use a PPA default risk model, the assessment can only be saved in Petrel.
Note: Connection with the database only works with GeoX 2016. Make sure you are connecting with the correct
database and not with another database, such as GeoX 2015 or previous versions.
