Prayer of Prophet Adam
for repentance after eating the Forbidden Fruit

-lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna


lanakoonan-na minal khaasireen.

Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not
upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost.

- Chapter 7, verse 23]

Prayer of Prophet Yunus


when in the belly of the fish

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntum minaz zaalimeen.

There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the
wrongdoers.

- Chapter 21, verse 87]

Prayer of Prophet Ayyub


after years of illness

An-nee massaniyad durru wa-anta arhamar rahimeen.

Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who
show mercy.

- Chapter 21, verse 83]

Prayer of Prophet Ibrahim 1
for wisdom & piety

Rabbi habli hukman wa alhiqni bis-saliheen,


Waj alli lisana sidqin fil akhireen,
Waj allni min warasati jannatin naeem,
Waghfir li abi innahu kaana minad daaleen,
Wala tukhzini yawma yubathuun,
Yawma la yanfa-u malun wala banoon,
Illa man ata Allaha biqalbin saleem.

My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge & wisdom) on me, and join me
with the righteous;
And grant me a reputation of honour amongst later generations.
And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight;
And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray.
And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected;
The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail,
But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.

- Chapter 26, verse 83-89]

for forgiveness for his parents

Rabbanaghfir li wali waaliday-ya wa lil mu l


hisaab.

Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when
the reckoning will be established.

- Chapter 14, verse 41]

Prayer of Prophet Ibrahim 3


for becoming true Muslims in faith

Rabbana waj-alna muslimayni laka wamin zurriy-yatina ummatam


muslimatal laka wa-areena manasikaana watub alayna innaka antat
tawwabur raheem.

Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our
descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites and
accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Most
Merciful.

- Chapter 2, verse 129]

when dealing with the idol-worshippers

Rabbana alayka tawaqqalna wa ilayka anabna wa ilaykal maseer.

Our Lord! In You (Alone) we put our trust, and to You (Alone) we turn in
repentance, and to You (Alone) is (our) final Return.

- Chapter 60, verse 4]

Prayer of Prophet Musa 1


for general goodness

Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeer.

My Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me .

- Chapter 28, verse 24]

Prayer of Prophet Musa 2


for eloquent & clear speech

Rabbish-shrahli sadri wa yas-sirli amri wahlul uqdatam-mil lisaani yaf


qaahu qowli.

O my Lord! Open for me my chest (grant me self-confidence, contentment, and


boldness). And ease my task for me; And make loose the knot (the defect) from
my tongue, (i.e. remove the incorrectness from my speech), that they understand
my speech.

- Chapter 2, verse 28]

Prayer of the Sleepers of the Cave
for help upon retreating to the cave

Rabbana atina mil ladunka rahmatan wahayyi lana min amrina rashadan.

Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Yourself, and facilitate for us our affair in the
right way.

- Chapter 18, verse 10]

Prayer of Prophet Yusuf


to die as a Muslim & be amongst the pious

Fatiras samawati wal ardi anta waliyyi fid dunya wal aakhirati tawaffani
musliman walhiqni bis-saliheen.

The (only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali (Protector /
Guardian) in this world and in the Hereafter, cause me to die as a Muslim (the
one submitting to Your Will), and join me with the righteous.

Prayer of Believers during time of Pharaoh
when the Pharaoh threatened to torture them for their faith

Rabbanagh fir alayna sabran wa tawaffana muslimeen.

Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to
You].

- Chapter 7, verse 126]

Prayer of King Talut


when he & his pious men fought against Goliath

Rabbanagh fir alayna sabran wa sabbit aqdamana wansur-na alal qawmil


kafireen.

Our Lord! Pour forth on us patience and make us victorious over the disbelieving
people.

- Chapter 2, verse 250]

Prayer of Prophet Lut


for support against corruption of the people

Rabbi ansurni alal qawmil mufsideen.

My Lord, support me against the corrupting people!

- Chapter 29, verse 30]

Rabbi ibni li indaka baytan fil jannati.

My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise.

- Chapter 66, verse 11]

Prayer of Prophet Shu


when

Rabbana iftah baynana wabayna qawmina bil haqqi wa anta khayrul


fatiheen.

Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those
who give judgement.

- Chapter 7, verse 89]
