PEDAGOGY

One of the key strengths of the MBA program at IBS Business School Dehradun is the
combination of traditional, modern and innovative methodologies of teaching likes Lecture-
cum discussions, simulations and games, role plays, group projects and independent
research and real life case studies. It has developed an unique and innovative
approach to management education with a sharp focus on providing the right
knowledge, imparting right skills for enduring success in careers in
management and shaping right attitudes.

Integrated Learning Framework

The learning framework of IBS encourages independent thinking and helps


the students in developing holistic perspectives, strong domain knowledge,
contemporary skill-sets and positive attitudes. IBS uses a comprehensive
student-centric learning approach consisting of several stages, designed to
add significant value to the learner understanding in a integrated manner.

Pedagogy

Case Study – A blend of Indian and Global Perspectives

IBS provides, through a variety of courses and case studies, a blend of Indian
and global perspectives. Students are encouraged to think globally and act
locally. Several case studies present the complexities and dilemmas faced by
manager operating in domestic and global environment. Managing diversity is
often a big challenge and also a great opportunity.

Evaluation & Grading

Student performance in each course is assessed by means of continuous


evaluation throughout the semester. Students are evaluated on the basis of
tests, home assignment, case analysis, seminars, projects etc. There are also
mid-semester tests and a final examination conducted every semester for
evaluation and grading.

The students are evaluated on a grading system and the overall performance
of a student is indicated by an index known as the Cumulative Grade Point
Average (CGPA).

The education methodology adopted by the ICFAI University, Dehradun (IUD)


encourages independent thinking and helps the students in developing holistic
perspectives, strong domain knowledge, contemporary skill-sets and positive
attitudes.

Classroom Instruction

Students receive full-time classroom instruction, which will help them to learn
and consolidate their understanding of the subjects.

Independent Study

Quality course-ware is available in the library. This helps students to achieve


the desired level of knowledge through self study.
Case-based Learning

IUD uses the case method as an important teaching and evaluation tool. The
case based learning is integrated as a dominant tool in the education
methodology which reinforces the students’ understanding of the concepts
and their ability to apply them in real life and practical business situations.
Case studies of reputed Indian and international companies are used which
help the students to understand the complexities in various business, political,
legal and social environments. The case study advantage is of life-long
advantage for the students.

IT Lab

Assignments related to computers will require the students to spend


significant time in the lab. All students will have access to well-equipped
computer lab, for their practical work.

Soft Skills Lab

Special emphasis is given to impart soft skills to meet the corporate


requirements. The exclusive design and the right mix of training processes
help the students to add a new dimension to their personality.

Summer Internship

The Summer Internship enables the students to experience the rigor of


business environment and combine the concepts learnt in classroom with the
real-life situations in organizations.
Projects

Students are encouraged to pursue live projects in each of the courses to


enhance their learning by applying theoretical concepts to industry situations.
This is done under the guidance of experienced faculty for proper focus and
implementation.

Evaluation

Student performance in each course is assessed by means of continuous


evaluation. Students are evaluated on the basis of assignments,
presentations, seminars, case discussions, projects and tests.

Faculty

The faculty brings their extensive knowledge, professional experience and


advanced education to their task. The faculty members have very good
academic backgrounds and sound conceptual knowledge in their respective
disciplines.

Computing Facilities

The campus is provided with the necessary latest hardware and software
infrastructure to cater to the computing needs of all students, faculty and the
training needs of information technology related courses. It is equipped with
Servers and terminals with multiple operating systems enabling a Client -
Server environment. High speed Internet connectivity is provided to all
students.
Library Facilities

The campus has well-stocked library. Students have access to the finest
selection of contemporary books and journals which supplement the
prescribed reference books and textbooks. The library is augmented with
books, periodicals, journals, magazines and other publications on a regular
basis.

Weekly Seminars

Weekly students’ seminar is conducted in IEdS-IUD to prepare the pupil


teachers more effective and efficient. Seminars are comfortable, open
environment for practicing professional communication techniques. It gives
intensive exposure to a topic through presentations and discussions.

Seminars

Students may participate in seminars on different topics and make


presentations of the same in the class. These are done under the guidance of
the faculty to hone the reading, summarizing and presentation skills of the
students apart from inculcating the reading habit in students.

Group Discussions in class

Using discussions in classroom is a primary tool which stimulates critical


thinking among students. It is a healthy way to make students active
participants in the teaching learning process. A good rapport is build up
with the students during discussions. It allows students to discuss any topic
with their peers and express their views. It boosts their confidence.
Discussions in classroom are not only beneficial for students ‘social skills,
but also their educational development and lifelong learning.

Micro and Macro teaching Sessions

Micro and Macro teaching sessions are held on every Friday to provide a
practical platform to the students for teaching. Various skills such as
Introduction, Explanation, Questioning & Answering, Reinforcement,
Stimulus Variation, Classroom Management, Use of Black board, Teaching
Aids etc are taught through Micro teaching Sessions. Students are required
to teach a small group of students for a short span of time. Microteaching
and Simulated Social Skill Teaching go on simultaneously. Macro Teaching
Session is a combination of all Micro Teaching skills

Guest Lectures

Eminent academicians and practicing professionals are invited for guest


lectures. Students get an opportunity to interact closely with them and
understand the practical applications of various management concepts and
ideas pertaining to management, law and science & technology.
