Level 1. I don’t want to get in trouble.


- A flower opening its petals to the bees so the bees can have access to the pollen.

Level 2. I want a reward.


- Ralph the dog rolls over for his owner.

Level 3. I want to please somebody.


- A wolf kills a gigantic elk in front of his lover.

Level 4. I follow the rules.


- A flock of geese fly south at the first sight of snowfall.

Level 5. I am considerate of other people.


- All members of an ant farm busily work to gather food for the winter.

Level 6. I have a personal code of behavior and I follow it.


- Ralph the dog rescues the kitten from the roaring river.

I really enjoyed this reading. While reading it I kept having the thought, “do unto others as
you would have them do to you.” I feel that all to often teachers feel they need to prove
themselves to their students. This reading helped me see that children want to be trusted,
liked, and accepted just like teachers do.
