RESEARCH PROPOSAL 2

Research problem

This research proposal focuses on how globalization has affected religion. It looks deeply

on the effects of globalization to religion and the questions that arise on the same bearing in mind

that we have different religions across the world. We all know that in ancient times religion started

from a minute area and later spread widely all over the world. Its spreading may have resulted to

positive changes or negative changes and this has been highly aided by globalization (Albanese,

2000). This proposal will help us understand more about globalization and how it has contributed

to the rise or downfall of religion. In ancient times, the technology was not improved as in today’s

world. Those times people could just walk from one place to another in order to spread religion

but nowadays the technology has relieved people off that cumbersome task of walking from place

to place and provided gadgets which are used instead and can reach a wide range of people. By

the end of this research proposal, globalization should be viewed in two ways; it can either

contribute positively or negatively to the religion.

Literature review, evidence and methods

By knowing the impact of globalization to religion, the stakeholders will be able to deal

with the current changes in the world wisely and try their best to make the advantages outdo the

disadvantages (Albanese, 2000). Experiencing religion in every part of the world is a clear

evidence that globalization has its hand in its growth. The data on the effects of globalization will

be collected through direct questions and answers, questionnaires and through observation.

Approaching the men and women who are aged and asking them questions to do with religion and

globalization and how they think globalization has affected religion in our current world

comparing with their days and the knowledge they have from ancient times. The evidence on this

research proposal can also be read be read from books. There are books which show how religious

activities were carried out in ancient times and how they are carried out today. The data on this

will be analyzed through recording and taking down notes. This will help me to write more about

the people and to compare different cultures and rituals carried out in early times and those which

are carried out in our today’s world. This will give an insight to my research.

Significance of the research

Religion are those set of beliefs and symbolic systems which carry our identity by marking

crucial moments in life cycle with rituals. Globalization at some point acts as a threat to religion

while religion acts as a repellant to globalization. The two are also inter-related in the fact that they

work closely and at some point they serve the common interest. Globalization has increased

security and transparency to human beings, these human beings are the heart of religion. When

there is enough security, people will be able to carry their religious activities freely without fear

and this helps expand religion. On the other hand, globalization poses a threat as it erodes local

customs and beliefs. It mostly deals with civilizing the people by making them go to school or by

introducing them into an unfavorable environment where they are forced to change their way of

thinking and also their way of life. This ends up eroding people’s culture and making them not to

live the life they are used of.
