Writing A Research Paper WYNN Lesson Plan: Read Highlight
Description:
Using WYNN 5.1 students will gather information and then write a research paper
about dolphins. Students will first peruse Web sites for appropriate content. Then
they will discern what information will be included in the report, organize the
material, and finally write the research paper.
Goals:
1. To develop an understanding of the dolphin.
2. To develop the skill of research writing.
Objectives:
1. To read Web sites using WYNN’s Read and WebMask tools.
2. To develop the skill of recognizing main ideas using WYNN’s Highlight
tool.
3. To develop the skill of recognizing supporting ideas using WYNN’s
Highlight tool.
4. To develop the skill of organization using WYNN’s Outline tool.
5. To develop the skills of writing and editing using WYNN’s Dictionary, Spell
Check, and Word Prediction tools.
Procedure:
1. Access the Web using the WYNN 5.1 Go to Web feature on the Blue
Toolbar.
2. Using WYNN’s Search button, students will find a Web site about dolphins.
Example for this lesson: All About Dolphins. This is also an excellent site
for teachers.
3. Using the WebMask & Read tools, students listen to the text.
Example: Dolphins

1. have teeth
2. warm-blooded
