The Berlin International Human Rights Congress


“Human Rights and Democracy in a Globalised World: Moving Towards an International Consensus”
(Berlin, 1st – 4th October 2010)

The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy is currently accepting applications to the forthcoming Berlin International
Human Rights Congress, taking place from 1st – 4th October 2010.

Taking place on the 20th anniversary of German Reunification, the conference will provide a forum for an
interdisciplinary analysis of salient issues with the fields of human rights and democracy. It will explore
developments in these areas over the past two decades and consider the key issues shaping discussions at
the international level today. The congress will consist of lectures, debates, and panel discussions featuring
expert speakers from international politics, international development, diplomacy, academia, civil society,
and the private sector. The audience will include students and scholars, diplomatic and political
representatives, journalists and civil society practitioners, from across the world. An audience in excess of
150 is anticipated.

The congress is being held in cooperation with Amnesty International Germany, Dubrovnik International
University, and the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria.

• Prof. Dr. Heiner Bielefeldt (UN Special Rapporteur for the Freedom of Religious Belief, Professor
in Human Rights at Erlangen-Nürnberg University)
• H.E. Yasar Yakis (Turkish MP, Former Foreign Minister of Turkey)
• Dr. Emil Constantinescu (Former President of Romania)
• Dr. Miomir Zuzul (Former Foreign Minister of Croatia)
• Cem Özdemir (Co-Leader of the German Green Party/Alliance 90)
• Dr. Alan Berman (Senior Lecturer, Newcastle University Law School, Australia)
• Benjamin Titze (Amnesty International Germany)
