I - Codes & Design Criteria

The system is designed in accordance with the following international codes & standards.
1 IEE Wiring Reg. 16th Edition
2 IEC (60364)

The earthing system used is TN-S, having separate neutral and protective
conductors throught the network.

The maximum voltage drop is considered as 4% between source and the

fixed current using device (refer clause 525-01-02, pg 81 of IEE Reg.)

Allowable Voltage Drop:

Main Feeder = 1%
Sub Feeders = 3% upto load

Design Air Ambient Temperature considered is 50 Deg. C

Design Ground Ambient Temperature considered is 40 Deg. C
Design Soil resistivity considered is 2.5

II - Load Calculation, Cable Sizing and Voltage Drop Design Formulae

Design current calculation :

According to IEE Wiring Regulation 16th Edition Chapter 43 Paragraph 433 to
434 Page 45, 46 and Appendix 4 Paragraph2 to 6 Page 174 – 176, design
current shall be determined in accordance with

kVA
In = √3VL Amps

In
Ib = Amps
Ct x Cg x Cd x Cs
Where:
Ib < In < Iz
( the following abbreviations have been used in the attached
calculations)
Ib = Design Current
In = Current rating (trip setting) of Protective Device
Iz = Current Carrying Capacities of Any Conductor
Ct = Adjustment for Ambient Temp. ( Table 4C1, IEE Page 187 )
Cg = Adjustment for Grouping Factor ( Table 4B1, IEE Page 185 )
Cd = Adjustment for depth of laying ducts
Cs = Adjustment for soil resistivity
VL = Line Voltage

Voltage Drop Calculation for Feeders @ 3Phase System:

L x I x mV
Vd = Volts
n x 1000

Where:
Vd = Voltage Drop in Volts
L = Route length of cable in meters
I = Current in amperes per phase
mV = Tabulated mv/amp/m.
n = Number of Parallel Feeders
Percent Voltage Drop :

Vd x 100
Vd =
VL
ce with the following international codes & standards.
