LOADING FOR MAIN SPANS

2) a) Loading calculation for walkway
b) Loading calculation for Toll Canopy
a) Loading calculation for walkway
2.1) Dead load
i) Self weight of structure with a load factor
(i.e 15 % additional for anchor bolts, fastners ,splice plates etc.) = 1.15
ii) Chequred plate on walkway
Walkway width = 1.5 m
Thickness of chequred plate on walkway = 0.008 m
Total thickness = 0.008 m
Self weight of Chequred plate = 0.628 KN/m2
Loading span for members supporting walkway = 0.75 m
Load is applied as UDL on members supporting walkway = 0.471 Kn/m
iii) CGI sheet weight (From IS 277-1992 CL-13.1)
Width of sheet = 3 m
Curved Length of sheet = 1.655 m
Thickness of sheet = 0.003 m
Unit weight of steel = 7850 Kg/m3
Weight of sheeting = 0.24 KN/m2
For Loading span = 2.500 m
Load is applied as UDL on Roof rafters of walkway = 0.589 KN/m
iv) Hand rail (as per Table No. 1 IS 1161 :1998)
Using 50 mm Nominal Bore 60.3 mm outside Dia Light wt Pipe as 1000 c/c in Railling
Spacing of hand rail(c/c) = 1.0 m
Height of hand rail = 1.0 m
Unit weight of hand rail pipe = 0.041 KN/m
Maximum Longituidnal Spacing of bay = 2.85 m
No. of handrails in each bay = 3 Nos.
So, Udl applied in staad will be = 0.12 KN/m
v) Cable tray load
Load intensity = 1.5 KN/m
span of loading = 2.850 m
Applying as nodal load in staad. = 4.275 KN
2.2) Imposed Live load on roof
(As per table 2 IS 875 part-2)
2
For unaccesible roof, Load intensity = 0.75 KN/m
Loading span = 2.850 m
UDL will be applied over rafters = 2.14 KN/m
2.3) Pedestrian live load
(as per IRC 6:2016 clause 206.3.b & c)
For effective span >7.5m and <30m
P = P'-(40L-300)/9
P' = 500 Kg/m2
LEFF = 16.9 m
W = 10.6 m
Live load = 458.2 Kg/m2
2
= 4.58 KN/m
= 5 KN/m2
Loading span = 0.75 m
2.5) Temperature load say,
Case 1
Member erected in summer at ambient temperature of around 35 °C.
Anticipated fall in temperature suffered during life of structure (35°-4.5°) = 30.5 °

Case 2
Member erected in winter at ambient temperature of around 8.0 °C
Anticipated rise in temperature suffered during life of structure (8°-42.5°) = -34.5 °
Average of rise and fall in temperature = (+ / -) = 32.5 °
Design value adopted (Rise(+)/Fall(-) = 32.5 °

2.6) Earthquake load parameters

Seismic zone factor(Zone IV) = 0.24
Importance factor = 1.5
Response reduction factor = 3
Damping ratio = 2%
UDL will be applied over walkway supporting members = 3.75 KN/m
b) Loading calculation for Toll Canopy
3.1) Dead load
i) Self weight of structure with a load factor
(i.e 15 % additional for anchor bolts, fastners ,splice plates etc.) = 1.15

3.2) Super Imposed dead load

i) ACP sheet weight over canopy (From IS 277-1992 CL-13.1)
Width of sheet = 3 m
Curved Length of sheet = 1.655 m
Thickness of sheet = 0.003 m
Unit weight of steel = 7850 Kg/m3
Weight of sheeting = 0.24 KN/m2
For Loading span = 2.5 m
Load is applied as UDL on Roof rafters of walkway = 0.589 KN/m

ii) Collateral load ( Such as lights, hoardings,Information boards ,decoratings etc.)

2
Intensity of Colateral load = 2 KN/m
Maximum span of loading = 2.5 m
UDL over cantilever members = 4 KN/m
3.3) Imposed Live load on roof
(As per table 2 IS 875 part-2)
2
Considering Accessible roof,Load intensity = 1.50 KN/m
Loading span = 2.5 m
UDL will be applied over Stringers = 3.75 KN/m
