This tradition in Zermatt was revived in 2005 with the establishment of the Zermatt Music Festival.
Chamber music and orchestral concerts are performed by the Scharoun Ensemble and other soloists
of the Berliner Philharmoniker in the beautiful Riffelalp Kapelle located at 2.222 meters above the sea
level as well as other locations in Zermatt.
TARGET GROUP
The Zermatt Festival Academy is designed for excellent young musicians and chamber music
ensembles who are members of the following institutions:

PROGRAMME
The lecturers will work on a wide range of chamber music repertoire that they will be selecting in
advance. Students' requests for particular pieces will also be taken into consideration if mentioned in
the application.
INSTRUMENTATION
We are looking for the following instrumentation:
10 violins
5 violas
5 celli
2 double basses
2 clarinets
2 oboes
2 flutes
2 bassoons
3 French horn
1 trumpet
1 percussion
PROCEDURE
ARRIVAL: Saturday, 1st September 2018 until 18:00 in Zermatt
DEPARTURE: Sunday, 17th September 2018 until 11:00 from Brig (!)
From Saturday to Monday there will be pre-rehearsals without teachers. You should arrive on
Saturday afternoon that the evening can still be used for these rehearsals.
Classes will be held in alternating formation in central locations in Zermatt. The rehearsals are open to
the public from 6.9. on. In addition to the orchestra concert in the St. Mauritius-Pfarrkirche, listed
above, there will be three concerts by the scholarship holders during the period of 11th – 13th
September 2018, in different locations around Zermatt. The program of these chamber concerts will be
announced in July.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation in Zermatt will be in hotels or apartments which will be provided by the Festival
management.
TERMS
The scholarship holders do not pay any fees for lessons, accommodation and food. The travel
expenses will not be paid by the Festival.
