Get ready people because this weekend our campus is gearing up to take one
step towards curing world hunger one empty stomach at a time. You guessed right!
This Sunday 30th of July, our campus will be host to the 30 Hour Famine initiative
aimed at raising funds as well as awareness as to the growing plague of hunger and
poverty around the world.
If you haven’t already heard of such an event allow me to clue you in. Every year
many countries participate in an initiative to fast for at least 30 Hours to stand in
solidarity with the cause; Fighting Hunger! Besides refraining from eating and
drinking, participants also engage in activities as well as speeches that are purposed
at raising awareness on the severity of the issues faced all around the world in
relation to hunger. From not having enough money to provide food and water to
families as well as not having a clean source of water within miles of their villages,
the rapidly increasing issue of world hunger is one that needs to be addressed and
combated now and only now.
So friends! That is indeed what the MMU Malacca 30 Hour Famine group aims
to achieve this weekend. Led by our very own Daniel Saw Yee Sern, the 30 Hour
team have been engaging in fund raising initiatives for months now in anticipation of
this event. Just early this month on the 15th of July, they visited the Headquarters of
World Vision Malaysia to donate a whopping amount of RM 19512.65.
It should also be noted that while the said camp will be kicking off here on the
MMU Malacca campus, it will be continuing the next day at the Shah Alam Stadium
Malawati where participants all around Malaysia will be gathering for the closing
ceremony.
Inspiring is the word that comes to mind seeing this team bring to life the aims
of World Vision in creating a happier and healthier life for global citizens.
If you too are inspired by this event come on down and show them your support
this weekend or even pledge to the the same for the years to come. Here’s wishing
the 30 Hour team every bit of success with their event.
