It is the eleventh week of my practicum phase in this school. The school is having the
UPSR examination for the year 6 pupils this week. Therefore, the pupils of Year 1, 2 and 3
were also given breaks for certain days. I only had class on Wednesday for this week. This
issue affected me in a way that I was not able to finish the topic on time. It resulted in
postponing lesson plans.
I feel that this week I was so free than usual. This is because, I did not even get a relief
for the other days. During this week, only on Wednesday I had class. Wednesday’s class
was also observation with my cooperative teacher, Mdm. Nur. In my opinion, the school
administration could have planned a program for the Year 1, 2 and 3 pupils. Moreover, we
as practicum teachers would be pleasured to assist them in making the program happen by
giving them a hand. For example, they could have conducted a Nilam program where
pupils would read with guidance.
The main reason for this issue to occur is because there are not enough teachers in
the school. If the pupils from Year 1, 2 and 3 were not given leave, they would be left
unattended. This is because, some of the teachers are busy invigilating the UPSR exam
halls during the examination and they are busy with paper works and such.
Moreover, the other reason for this issue to occur is that there are lack of classrooms
in the school. The morning session and the afternoon session are sharing classes.
Therefore, they are trying to avoid the pupils in the afternoon session to disturb the table
and chair arrangements of the UPSR examination hall.

The strength that I felt was that, the free time allowed me to update my record book
and portfolio in order to make it complete. Moreover, I was able to design extra lesson
plans for the following week. This is because, when I am prepared for next week lessons, I
would do the materials earlier. Therefore, I will be relaxed and I will be able to conduct the
lesson with confidence as it is not last minute.
One weakness that I could realize is that I could not practice much with my teaching
skills as I was not able to teach my pupils much in this week. Lack of practice might not be
good for me as I am just a trainee teacher and I need more experience by teaching
practically. I felt bored and I started entering my practicum mates’ classes and started
observing their teaching method.
One of the suggestion that I would give is that, it would be better if the teachers were
given leave as well if they do not have anything to do at school. This is because, it wastes
petrol money, times and so on.
Moreover, I think that it would be better if the Year 1, 2 and 3 pupils were taken on an
educational trip companied by teachers who are free. I believe that this way the time is
benefited by the pupils and the teacher plus, the school classes would not be disturbed.
Furthermore, UPSR examination will take place without any disturbance.
This issue only occurs once a year. Therefore, if the school is ready to accept
suggestions, this can be implemented next year.
I spent my time completing my record book and practicum portfolio. This is how I benefited
the amount of free time I had. The suggestions can only be implemented next year.
