Slinky Shrug

You’ll adore this super-simple Shrug

designed for drapey knits and
woven fabrics, and finished with a
stretchy rib trim...try rayon, cotton,
bamboo or silk knits, or choose soft,
drapey wovens like georgette or crepe.
Relaxed-fit, batwing-sleeved Shrug has
a curved edge-to-edge front and 3/4
length sleeves. The neckline, hem and
sleeves are finished with a deep ribbed
trim. Shrug finishes at the hip.
Wear this fabulously easy shrug to add a
little festive glamour to a classic pants-
and-T-shirt look, or slip it on over your
favorite party dress for a little extra

ABOUT THIS STYLE

This Shrug has an unfitted, very relaxed silhouette.

FABRIC & NOTIONS REQUIRED
Although this pattern is designed for a knit, this is
one of those rare styles when you can use a woven
You'll need around 1 yard/ 90 cm of 60"/150cm
fabric too...just remember
wide fabric and 26"/66 cm of 60"/150cm wide ribbing.
1) your chosen fabric MUST be drapey, not stiff;

2) you MUST use ribbing to edge the hem,

neckline and sleeves.

Oh yes, as always, make & fit a muslin before

2a Join the front rib pieces along the straight edges.
you cut into your fabric...in this case, use a
cheap knit with a similar drape to your chosen fabric.

1 Start by preparing the sleeve ribbing .

Join the short ends of each piece to make a loop.

2b Join the back rib piece to the fronts.

Press the seam open, then fold your loop lengthways,

Press the seams open, and fold the strip in half

lengthways, so the seams are inside.

Join the fronts to the back along the shoulder seams. Add the rib trim to the neckline: fold your neckline ribbing in
3 and press the seams open.

Match the center seam on the neckline rib to the center back
neck on the shrug.

Match the side seams on the back hem rib to the side seams
at the hemline on the shrug

Join the fronts to the back along the side seams.

and press the seams open.
Join the neckline ribbing to the shrug neckline & hemline,
4b stretching the ribbing to match the neckline & hemline as you go.
4 Don't forget, you're sewing through all thicknesses.

Press the seam allowances towards the body of the shrug.

+ + To complete the shrug, gently gather the ribbing at the center

back seam. Once the ribbing has gathered to your linking
4c (try the shrug on to see!) stitch the gathers into place
along the ribbing's center back seam.

Add the rib trim to the sleeves; fold your sleeve ribbing in half
using the seam as one edge, and mark your halfway point with a pin.

Do the same thing to the bottom edge of the sleeve...use the
underarm seam aand the overarm seam as your halfway points.

Now join the sleeve ribbing to the sleeve edge.

5b Now. how stunning do you look in this?
Match the 2 pins on the sleeve ribbing to the under &
overarm seams at the bottom of the sleeves.

Sewing through all thicknesses, join the sleeve ribbing

to the sleeve edges, stretching the ribbing to match the
sleeve as you go.
