Motor starter – in an automobile, we know that engine can not running is self.

The engine need a

support to get running. Starting system is used as supported to the engine to life. The starting
system work with a motor located the end of the flywheel. This motor, move by electric curent. So
we can said, that starting system is an automobile electric system.

Working Principicle Of Starter Motor

The starter switch is usually worked by the ignition key. Turn the key beyond the 'ignition on'
position and then, curent will flow to the solenoid. The ignition switch has a return spring, so that as
soon as you release the key it springs back and turns the starter switch off.

When the switch feeds current to the solenoid, the electromagnet are attracts. The movement of
the rod closes two heavy contacts, completing the circuit from the battery to the starter. The rod
also has a return spring -when the ignition switch stops feeding current to the solenoid, the contacts
open and the starter motor stops.

The return springs are needed because the starter motor must not turn more than it has to in order
to start the engine. The reason is partly that the starter uses a lot of electricity, which quickly runs
down the battery.

Also, if the engine starts and the starter motor stays engaged, the engine will spin the starter so fast
that it may be badly damaged.

Main Components Of Starting System

According to Autoexpose, there are several part of starter motor.

Solenoid starter pushing the pinnion drive gear and give voltage on
main motor.
Pull in coil pushing the plunger to push the drive pinion gear
Hold in coil withstand the movement of the pull in coil and
connect the battery current to the main motor
Solenoid plunger connecting the movement of pull in coil to drive
lever. In other words, this part only acts as a
connecting rod
Solenoid cap There are 3 terminal, also used as a media liaison
between the current from the system to the starter
actuator.
Field coil series of magnetic coils used to generate magnetism
around the coil rotor, but this part is static so its only
to form magnetism inside of motor.
Armature commonly referred to as a coil rotor or coil located
around the motor shaft. Also as a magnetic field
generator that will be reacted with magnet field coil
for the occurrence of movement.
Commutators connecting the electrical current from the brush to
the armature coil. The commutators have
segmented form to prevents short circuiting of
electric current because in the process the
commutator will be connected to positive and
negative currents directly.
Drive lever It will bring up the pinion gear when the other end is
pushed in opposite directions, while solenoid
plunger moving.
Brushses used to connect the electrical current from a static
conductor to a dynamic conductor
Drive pinion clutch A mechanical clutch that has function to connecting
and disconnecting rotation from the starter shaft to
the flywheel
Drive pinion gear The function of this pinnion gear is to connect the
rotation of the generated electric motor to the engine
crankshaft via flywheel
Motor housing It has the function as a protective part and as a
place to put various components of starter

13 parts of starter motor above, are basic components. So in the new model of starting system,
maybe have additional parts.
