FROM THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT

With the Holidays come the start of our Winter Season here at Wilson High
School. Thanksgiving week marked the first official week for winter sports to
participate in sanctioned events. The girls and boys basketball team started off with
a roar on the first official Mondays. The girls varsity basketball team hosted their
annual tournament at Wilson high school. Rancho Cucamonga was the champion
but our girls got some valuable experience against stiff competition. The boys
basketball team also started that week with the 1st annual Whittier Turkey
Classic. The month of December will be a whirlwind of events for all the
programs. Girls and Boys Soccer, Girls and Boys Basketball, Wrestling, and Girls
Water Polo will all be participating in multiple games and tournaments. Our schedule
can be found by signing up at VNN Sport App . This is an online service as well as
an app you can get on your phone. The schedule will always be just a click
away. We are looking forward to having multiple sports advancing to CIF this
season so please come out and support them along the way.
Willie Allen, Athletic Director
ALMA MATER
Wilson High School hail to thee. Strong our ties will ever be.
Sons and daughters praise thy name. Honor thee and spread thy fame.
Knowledge is cardinal;
Fellowship: gold.
A crest whose creed we will uphold.
Guides for our future, ever free.
Wilson High School, hail to thee.

ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY

ASB has been busy the last month, with celebrating the end of fall sports and
welcoming the winter sports season. We celebrated our Varsity athletes and their
teachers with an inspirational luncheon. Jostens has been here for our seniors, as
they prepare for graduation. We acknowledged what we were thankful for with a
poster that allowed the student body to write their thankful praises.
As we prepare for December, we will be celebrating our sports at the lunch rally on
December 15th. We had a successful first Club food day and look forward to our
second one on December 8th. We will be rolling out new spirit apparel for 2018,
from new sweatshirts, t-shirts, visors, and windbreakers. Prices will vary for the
items and may be purchased in the ASB office. ASB will also be celebrating
November and December student birthdays with hot chocolate, later this month.
We also want to congratulate the following Staff members for being Staff of the
month: Gavino Pizzaro (custodial); Mrs. Arteaga (English); Coach Allen (athletics).
As we enter December, we will end finals week with a Winter Wonderland Spirit
Week from Monday December 18- December 21. We hope our students will join in
the festivities. We look forward to ending the fall semester on a good note and
enter 2018 with a positive foot forward. Go Wildcats!

COUNSELOR CORNER

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to All!!

To all Students: BEFORE returning to school on Tuesday, January 9th, please
check your AERIES account for any changes to your spring class schedule.
Most students will NOT have any changes unless requested. Also, remember that
requests are not guaranteed. If you do not have an AERIES account, please see
your counselor before school, during lunch or after school before the winter break.
Finals will be given during the week of December 18th 21st. It is imperative that
students do well in order to progress towards graduation. Students are encouraged
to study hard and ask questions of their teachers. Fall semester report cards should
begin to arrive in the mail in early January. Students not earning credits for any
class will need to make plans to attend summer school. Seniors that do not pass
any first semester class needed for graduation should see their counselor in
January.
Both students and parents are also encouraged to have an AERIES account to view
academic progress in each class, attendance and grades.
Michele Mabrie, Lead Counselor
WILSON INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY & SCIENCES (WITS)
Congratulations to Kalvin Chang, Darien Tsai, Eric Siu and Coach Justin Ro for
placing 1st overall in the Ed Royce Congressional App Challenge with their math
app Aftermath. The Congressional App Challenge is a nation-wide competition
designed to engage student creativity and promote their participation in computer
science and coding. This year 138 teams from 17 schools in the Hacienda La
Puente, Fullerton, Anaheim, Rowland, and Walnut School Districts competed.
Wilson WITS students Melissa Cervantes, Vivian Lu, Alex Arteaga, Michelle
Kakumasu, Ava Truong attended the Industry Manufacturers Council Luncheon to
speak on behalf of our Science Pathways at Wilson to business leaders in our
surrounding cities. The goal was to find partnerships, job shadowing, and internship
opportunities with local businesses to integrate career readiness with our pathways.
The In N Out truck will be coming to Wilson on Dec 20th, 2017 during lunchtime.
Please support our co-curricular activities by purchasing a pre-order ticket. Please
see any robotics or science Olympiad member or C-3 for tickets. The In N Out truck
will only accept pre-sale tickets and will not be selling the day of the event.
