Amnesty International is a global movement in promoting to end grave abuses of human rights by

millions of activists in over 150 countries which was founded by a British lawyer, Peter Benenson.

Amnesty International was began by an article about two Portuguese students who were imprisoned
because of raising a toast to freedom in 1961. The article was published by the founder, Peter
Benenson, named Appeal for Amnesty in 1961.

Amnesty International groups are started in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Norway,
Sweden, and the USA. At a conference in Belgium, all the groups decide to set up a permanent
organization that will be known as Amnesty International in 1962.

Their vision is to preserve everyones rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other
international human rights standards.

They are free of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion, and are funded
mainly by their membership and public donations.

After more than 50 years of ground-breaking achievements, Amnesty International is now

embarking on a major process of evolution, to adapt to the dramatic changes in the world they
operate in, and to increase the impact of their human rights work.

With a distribution centre and Regional Hubs of research, campaigns and communications, they are
introducing the new globally work because they feel they are owe to the people they are fighting
for.

Besides, they are also posting articles, stories and regular blogs to show what is current issue and
why it is important to know.

In Malaysia, Amnesty International is now promoting Humans Rights Education to all over in
Malaysia involving children and adults.
