JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Chief Engineer Reports To: General Manager


Department: Engineering/Technical FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY

Responsible for the maintaining the technology necessary for keeping the stations on the air while ensuring all stations are in compliance
with all FCC requirements for engineering.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:

Develops and implements policies, standards and procedures for keeping all stations FCC compliant including correcting any
deficiencies in the operating standards in the applicable time frame set forth by FCC regulations.
Performs preventive maintenance on electronic, computer, and broadcast equipment.
Performs required repairs on electronic, computer, and broadcast equipment including but not limited to telephones, computers,
voicemail system, and programming equipment.
Assist as necessary in maintaining email, traffic, accounting and other software for efficient station operations.
Makes changes in circuitry, design, and installation to adjust for assembly, maintenance and space requirements.
Programs and install software and hardware for various communication systems related to the technical operation of the
stations.
Maintain quality connectivity from studios to transmitters; including Microwave backup systems.
Monitor remote transmitter and server functionality via alert technology to insure timely response time for resolution.
Maintains a safe storage location for all station logs and properly document any corrective actions taken on station logs.
Maintains quality and consistency of on-air signal and operational equipment and oversees transmitter sites.
Troubleshoots all on-air malfunctions with equipment.
Performs weekly testing of the studios for accurate EAS test recordings and signing of logs.
Trains appropriate associates on the procedures of proper EAS testing and logging.
Implements and maintains FCC operational requirements while keeping abreast of FCC rules and other applicable state and
local laws.
Knowledge of signal broadcast patterns; related engineering studies; and FCC related filings.
Keeps current on technological advances within the broadcast industry.
Knowledge of website operation and the ability to train, assist, and support PDs when necessary.
Experience and quality skills with Live broadcast; live call in show production; remote talent access to live broadcasts.
Responsible for communication with vendors to improve station equipment performance.
Assist in the preparation of annual expense budgets and makes recommendation for equipment to increase efficiency and
performance while being cost effective.
Reviews cost estimates and price quotes for procurement of station equipment and the negotiation of service contracts.
All purchases require 3 bids, submitted to GM. This position does not possess authority to purchase, sign contracts, commit to
purchase/expense of company funds. Only the GM may purchase, sign contracts, or commit/obligate company.
Writes and present proposals to management for engineering and technical projects to be performed and communicates with
management about on-going technical issues and recommends resolutions.
Performs other administrative tasks to include the development and maintenance of an emergency contingency plan in the
event of a natural or man-made disaster.
Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations regarding OSHA compliance such as
proper disposal of equipment and securing a safe working environment.
Provides quality customer service to internal departments and external customers.
Train staffing in the efficient and safe remote broadcast assignments; assisting when necessary.
Maintain neat and clean operational areas to insure efficiency and safety.
Insure inventory of key spare parts; connectors; and normal repair supplies for timely repairs.
Insure proper building maintenance at all facilities; including reasonable repairs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Monitor company vehicles to insure maintenance schedules for safe operation.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The

Current knowledge of broadcast FM and AM operation and of Computer Science as related to broadcast operations.
Five years of radio broadcast experience in both FM and AM broadcast operations and repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of radio broadcasting procedures, FCC regulations, and related documentation.
Excellent technical and computer skills.
Hi power FM, AM directional, and Audio Vault experience (Audio Vault experience preferred, but not required)
FCC general class license or SBE Radio Engineering certification.
Experience with BE and Harris Transmitters; digital broadcast equipment; antennas; tower maintenance.
Experience in dealing with tower rental for Cellular, Microwave, and other transmission opportunities.
Positive, Pleasant, and coaching personal skills to team build with all station employees and clientel.
Must have reliable transportation and valid and clean license.

May involve nights, weekends, and holidays
Must be available for on call duty
Lifting up to 50 lbs.
