The rambutan is a common Malaysian fruit. The name of
the fruit comes from the Malay word, rambut, which means
hair. This is because the fruit has hairy skin. Rambutan fruits
are green when young, but as they ripen, they can be either red
or yellow, depending on what type of rambutans they are.

Under the hairy skin, the fruit is actually very smooth. It

has a pearly white flesh with a medium sized seed inside. The
flesh is sweet and juicy. It is best eaten raw. We can just peel
off the skin and eat it fresh. During its off season, we can buy
canned rambutans from the supermarkets. Rambutans can be
used to make jellies and drinks.
