Othello and freedom writers speech

Ones sense of belonging can be both developed and restricted by the people they interact
and bond with and this can be influenced by various environments they find themselves in.

Good morning/ good afternoon .fellow students and respected teachers

Belonging represented through the use of relationships between characters and linguistic
techniques. Othello elaborates and identifies the power of relationships, society and place
can impact on an individual's sense of belonging.Shakespeare's shows representation of the
different characters portrayed through various perspectives and sense of belonging.
Additionally the film Freedom Writers depicts the aspects of identity, acceptance and
understanding of belonging through various typical connections with people and society.
This film suggests that identity is not static and is constantly evolving, possessing multiple
identities therefore it can cultivate a strong sense of belonging and not belonging in different
societies.

Race is another way in which power becomes more dominant and belonging to a particular
race has the ability to generate one's limited power in relating to other human beings.
Othello character is portrayed as the more with respect due to his position of being a solider
in society, however, in the private and social domain, he is marginalized and dislocated
because of his race. Each individual is the play presents a different point of view when
observing othello this impacts as an individual due to being criticised by the society for
belonging to a different race. "Haply, for I am dark, And have not those delicate parts of
discussion" here Othello talks about what is said in regards to him by the society
emphasising the strong motive depicting his race and culture framing his sense of not
belonging. This viewpoint is upheld from the very beginning of the play by each every
individual character and they all find Othello's racial background the main point of deception
and especially since he married a white woman which upholds another contrast due to the
marginalised thinking and beliefs of the society

The film "Freedom Writers" demonstrated belonging in similar perspective to othello.

Significantly not belonging to part of society is the main deception due to the connection
among the people belonging from different backgrounds. In fact every race is stereotypically
displayed for example the whites live in a nice house and have a standard for living, the
Asian girls are attractive and the mixture of black and Hispanic youth who are all low class
Americans are partaking in a sense of commonly represented as gang violence. The position
status of students portrayed is low at the beginning of the film, but realizes a rise created by
the course of history due to the credibility that the teacher Mrs G assigns her each and every
students more respect, time and comfort than any other individual in the society. She offers
to teach them about completely different worlds beside the one they live in. Every single
individual belongs to a racial group which are separated in class. This consequently
describes their status out the classroom walls where they fight each and every single
second, minute and hour of their life to just the the security they need to survive in this
monstrous divided world.
Within certain environments, an individual can establish a sense of belonging through
challenging the beliefs and values of the society. Shakespeare's representation of the
character Othello portrays he finds his true identity from where he came from and also
through his religion. Due to not belonging in society, Othello's low self confidence is a weak
point through the line "rude am I in my speech" defines that Othello does not believe he
speaks well in the beginning of the play but the rest of society classify him a man of lower
class particularly due to race. Othello downgrades himself and his speech in order to suit the
expectations and the stereotypes of a moor. In order to belong to society. His authoritative
but polite statement of Keep up your bright swords, for the dew will rust them emplifies his
verbal and physical prowess over the Venetians despite the negative connotations
surrounding his racial identity. In addition, it was this allure of exotic presence that woo
Desdemona to fall in love with Othello. Thus, the playwright clearly conveys that an
individual can change the perspective of a society through their compelling reptation and
judgment can leads to a sense of acceptance and inclusion the concept of human nature,
relationships, differences in race, gender and class suggesting disempowerment can change
belonging and not belonging to society.

Further on freedom writers also establish a sense of belong through overcoming the
challenges as they unite with each other to form a evident and powerful connection to
showcase their abilities as well as to reach the point of comfort and security. The teacher is
the main focus behind the change for what she has done to create a change is that she has
provided a medium for different racial background to interact with each other through the use
of past historical events leading and defining the same circumstances as each and every
individual finds himself in. the use of diary entries is very successful because it becomes a
direct connection between the relationship of a student and a teacher, which further helps to
explore and resolve the issues faced by every individual. The sense of belonging arises as
they overcome each problems together step by step. This also allows the society to change
their perspective about each other as they see these individuals progression from hating
each other to being united as one.

In conclusion, it is the synthesis of a vast range of influences that determine an individuals

sense of belonging. This is manifested in Othello and freedom writers through utilization of a
range of linguistic, film and dramatic techniques to create a multifaceted dimension of
belonging within the society. These concepts exploit the understanding of human nature to
seek a sense of belonging which leads to more secure and comfortable environment for
people to live in. Thus, it is clear that acceptance and isolation are actively intertwined in
Othello and freedom writers, and it is a combination of factors which shape belonging over a
passage of time.
