1.1 The System

Supreme is the pioneer in introducing this efficient S.W.R. drainage system to India. It has successfully replaced conventional CI
and AC drainage systems. The Supreme S.W.R. drainage system is designed for quick and efficient removal of waste without
leakage. It is highly resilient, tough and durable with high tensile and impact strength. Moreover it is free from scale formation,
rusting, weathering and chemical action. It is virtually immune to attack by bacteria, fungi, micro-organisms and insects. Thus
the system is a long term solution for building drainage with estimated life over 50 years. In addition to the various benefits, it
is more cost effective than any conventional drainage system. It is approved by MCGM and widely used millions of quality con-
scious customers.
Product Specifications and Range

Section - 2 Hi-Tech, Low Noise, S.W.R. Drainage System 23

Considering the pressure on land bank in metropolitan cities as well as tier-I and tier-II cities, we are experiencing a boom of
tower constructions. The buildings, as high as 100 stories are coming up in the city of Mumbai. Looking at these trends of
vertical growth of cities and premium architectural designs, Supreme has the pleasure to come out with a new numero-uno
product for the modern construction practices. It is only but natural that the drainage system should be on par with
International quality and superiority. Therefore to meet these new challenges, Supreme introduces its latest product, Hi-tech,
Low noise S.W.R. Drainage System under the brand name Skyrise. Skyrise adds one more feather in our cap in our journey
towards excellence through quality and innovation.
2.1 The System
Supreme Skyrise, Low Noise, S.W.R. drainage system is a premium product especially designed for hotels, hospitals, hi-rise
buildings, and premium projects where regular S.W.R. do not suffice the application requirement. Such buildings require a soil
system which is strong enough to withstand site handling and other application requirements. Designed to meet strictest
demands for strength and other mechanical properties, this thick walled, high density "Skyrise" Hi-Tech S.W.R. drainage
system is additionally featured with low noise aspects. This makes it suitable for the projects where sound beyond certain
decibel level is not desirable. Thus a combination of strength and Low noise aspects has made this product a much better
solution for building drainage. Like our pioneering uPVC, S.W.R. drainage system introduced 25 years back which has now
successfully replaced conventional CI and cement drainage products in the market, this all together new Hi-Tech soil system
will set new trend for the new market segment where people are expecting to have such specialty products. It is the best plastic
alternative to CI drainage system. As a pioneer in the field it is with great pride and joy we have been introducing new product
in the market to elevate present drainage segments.
2.1.1 Product specifications and range -Supreme Skyrise S.W.R. drainage system is made in the sizes 50, 75,110,160 and 200
mm. Wall thicknesses of pipes and fittings are designed to make the product strong, durable and soundproof. This system
conforms and exceeds EN 1329 standard requirements.
2.1.2 Raw Material - For decades the Indian construction industry is familiar with PVC based soil and waste pipe systems. The
logic is PVC has traditionally been recognized and used as the most suitable for drainage and sewerage installations, PVC has a
high density among the popular thermoplastics and jointing can be made both by solvent cementing and ring seal type.
Supreme Skyrise Hi-Tech drainage system is made up of mineral reinforced PVC for improved sound insulation.
Meeting all requirements - Rigorous testing and quality control throughout the entire production process ensures that the
"Skyrise" system is a highly reliable and extremely effective low noise system.

Good fire resistant properties - PVC is self extinguisher of fire. It is classified as B-S1-dO(B= Low speed of fire spread and heat
emission, S1= Low quantity and speed of smoke emission, dO= No flaming drip's are produced).
Compatible with existing S.W.R . system
Cost effective - "Skyrise" offers cost advantage over CI and other similar noise level pipe systems.
2.3 Noise Pollution in the Buildings
Noise pollution - We always associate air pollution with dust, industrial emissions and water pollution with effluent mix etc.
We do not pay enough attention to noise pollution. Noise pollution is a matter of great concern because of the serious
discomfort it is capable of causing, as well as its detrimental effects on health, human behavior and other activities. Noise has
adverse impact on the human health which degrades the quality of personal and social life. In developed countries, several
years ago this issue was addressed and building regulation authorities had stipulated that none of the equipments in the
building should generate noise level more than 30 decibels (dB). This includes pumps, vacuum cleaner, washing machine, air
conditioners etc. The study even added soil and waste pipe system in the house causes noise and this has to be controlled.
These include provisions governing "protection from noise, in such a manner that the noise perceived does not endanger the
health of people and allows them to carry out their activities in a satisfactory way".
Noise occurrence in waste water systems - The noise occurred in waste water system are conveyed to the environment in
two ways.
1. Structure borne noise - When you hit an iron rod, the impact causes noise and the noise travels over the material through a
distance. This is structure borne noise. Lower the elasticity modulus, the distance traveled by the noise over a structure is
lesser. Thus lower elasticity modulus of plastics gives the advantage of structure borne noise reduction. Experience shows that
the greatest problems are typically caused by the transmission of structural noise, particularly in the area of pipe clamps and
brackets or where pipe-work is run through walls or ceilings.
2. Air borne noise - When you speak in a room a person in the next room hears that.
The noise travels over the air to the next room. If the dividing medium is having less
mass, the noise transfer over air is more. If the dividing medium has more mass, more
density, then the noise reduction is better. Combining these two factors, the ideal
pipe system is made out of plastics with higher density and higher wall thickness.
This is the starting point for the evolution of Supreme Skyrise Hi-Tech, Low Noise,
S.W.R. Drainage system. Conventional Pipe Skyrise Low Noise Pipe

Sources of noise in a piping system - Noise is generated by moving

parts or by flowing media. Waste water pipes are prone to vibration,
particularly where water flows through down pipes, or is forced to
change direction in joints and elbows. When soil and waste water
flows in the system, it passes through bends, tees, reducers etc. 4
1
Whenever there is change in direction or change of size, the flow
3
causes impact and consequently noise. This noise causes
2 5
disturbance to the people in the adjacent rooms. The noise
generated by plant and equipment providing services to the
buildings may be classified as follows :
Noise due to filling operations
Intake/inflow noises
Discharge noise 6

Noise due to impact or shock

Noise protection - People living in residential and commercial buildings, schools, hospitals, hotels etc. require protection
from excessive noise created by various equipments in those buildings in accordance with the requirements of DIN 4109.
Various aspects given below which decides the intensity of sound transfer in the room should be taken in to account.
The hydraulic characteristics of the flow/discharge.
The molecular structure, mass and thickness of the piping components of the system.
Floor
Dimensions and configurations of the system. slab

The techniques used for installing and anchoring the system i.e. Clamps with rubber seals which
breaks sound bridge etc.
Density of separating/partition walls and building layout.
Where piping passes through floor of wall panels, these must be filled with insulation material at
least 4 mm thick. The same is applicable for piping segment built into the walls. 4 mm Soundproofing
material.
Sound insulation recommendations - Following noise control measures will help to reduce the noise intensity.
Building layout - An important step in noise protection is the appropriate design and layout of the building. The following are
some of the important measures -
Noise - Sensitive areas should be kept as far as possible away from sources of noise. Noise sensitive areas should not be
positioned in the direct vicinity of bathrooms, toilets or staircases. Non-sensitive areas should, wherever possible, be used as
"buffer zones".

Substantial noise reduction is possible using Supreme Skyrise drainage system, however sound isolation of the system
/installation is equally important. Following are some of the guidelines to be observed with respect to waste water drainage
systems.
While planning pipe installation, waste water discharge pipes should not be allowed to run inside the walls separating living
areas.
Waste pipes should not be used in living, sleeping and working
rooms.
It is recommended to wrap a layer of mineral wool around the
pipe, where contact with the plaster layer cannot be avoided.
The surface weight of the wall which separates the piping work
from the area sensitive to noise must be at least 220 kg/m.
The system design should avoid significant pressure fluctuations
which could affect on trap water seal. Places requiring protection
against structure- borne sound
Proper ventilation must be provided.
A self-cleaning effect must be achieved. Metal clamp with structure
Nominal diameters should be kept to a minimum. borne sound isolating
rubber strips.
Where piping passes through floor or partition walls it should be
suitably sound isolated using sound insulation material and
proper clamps to safeguard against structure borne sound.
Noise Measurement Test
Supreme Skyrise S.W.R. drainage system is tested in compliance with EN 14366. Standard installation comprising different
pipes and fitting is made as per the given layout diagram in 110 mm size. The clamps with rubber seal are used to avoid transfer
of structure borne sound. Sound measured on the opposite side of the separating wall having 220 kg/m surface mass in a
sound proof room. The sound is measured corresponding to different discharges. The sound level corresponding to 2.0 lit/sec
and 4.0 lit/sec are 22 and 27 decibels respectively. The decibel levels are tested and certified by reputed Fraunhofer Lab in
Germany.

3.1 uPVC Traps

All drainage systems are provided with different types of traps to ensure efficient functioning of drainage system. The basic
function of a trap is to prevent inward passage of foul air / gases or entry of insects inside the building , and allow the soil waste
to flow through it. All the defects associated with conventional cast iron traps like corrosion, inadequate water seal etc. are
addressed in Supreme uPVC traps.
All traps have a minimum 3.2 mm wall thickness and smooth/glazed inside in order to ensure efficient flushing. The trap will
collect night soil/waste from W.C.s, bathrooms, kitchens, wash basins and other wash down areas in domestic and commercial
buildings and convey the same to the main stack.

Salient Features
Compact design Corrosion resistance - no scale formation
100% leak proof joints Flat bottom ensures correct installation position
Self cleaning base Wide rang and unique designs to meet every requitement.
Chemical resistance On request P / Q / S / U Traps can also be supplied with vent horn of 50 mm
Smoother inside or required size
Available in different water seals to meet different application.

3.2 Installation of P/Q /S/U - Traps

Determine correct location of 'P'/'Q'/'S'/'U' Traps and set it on a firm base located relative to the floor finish by pouring
concrete on a slab.
Bedding can be carried out by pouring 'concrete around 'P'/'Q'/'S'/'U' Trap, ensuring that outlet of Trap is left clear of
concrete.
Place Supreme W.C. connector ring to the socketed end of 125/110 'P'/'Q'/'S/'U' Trap.
Apply rubber lubricant on W.C. connector ring as well as on outer side of WC pan and now complete the joint by pushing
WC pan to home of 125 mm socket of 'P'/'Q'/'S/'U' Trap.
When 110/110 mm 'P'/'Q'/'S/'U' Traps are to be used for jointing other than WC pan connection, the joints are to be
completed with the help of solvent cement.
The outlet of 110 mm can be inserted in the socket end of pipe/fittings (as the case may be) and joint can be solvent
cemented to make a leakproof joint.

3.3 Bottle Gully Traps

Waste lines are connected to inspection chambers through bottle gully traps.
These traps are superior to conventional traps as they provide wider entry to flow,

3.5 Joining Procedure : Rubber Ring / Push Fit Jointing

Make sure the spigot end and inside of the socket is clean and the sealing ring is placed
evenly in the socket.
When cutting pipes, make sure they are cut square. Cut end of pipe should be deburred
and chamfered to an angle of 15o with a medium file. This is important to avoid
displacement of the rubber ring.

A correct depth of entry of the spigot into the socket is required to allow thermal movement.
To achieve this, push spigot fully into the socket (remove sealing ring at this time) and make
a mark on the spigot. Withdraw the spigot by 10 mm and mark the spigot with a bold line.
This bold mark indicates the correct depth of entry to allow the necessary expansion gap.

Apply Supreme Silaid rubber lubricant evenly on the pipe or fitting spigot end and the
sealing ring. Then insert the spigot into the socket with light twisting motion. Pull the pipe
out to allow for 10 mm expansion gap.

The joint is now complete and required no additional mastics, tape or cement or any other
jointing sealants.

3.7 Installation Procedure - Skyrise drainage system

Installation of Supreme Hi-Tech, Low Noise system has to be done under the
supervision of a good technician, paying full attention to the expansion/
contraction process drainage which does not cause any stress on the pipe system.
Normal clamps available in the market will do but it is advisable to use the ones
with inner rubber lining to minimize the structure born noise transfer.
1-2m

1. Fixed clamps (clamps with rubber liner) support the system firmly and the loose
clamps (clamps without rubber liner) allow the expansion/ contraction of the
pipes freely.
2. Clamp interval for horizontal lines should be approx 10 times of the external
diameter of pipe.
3. Clamps in the vertical lines should be between 1 2 mtrs.
4. Do not install clamps at the point of impact i.e. on the flat places of pressure
areas.
5. In the vertical pipes, it is recommended to use one fixed clamp and one loose
clamp per length.
1-2m

6. The fixed clamp must be installed just above the fitting at the bottom end of the
vertical pipe line. The sliding clamp has to be installed at the distance of
maximum 2 mtrs. from the fixed clamp.
7. In multi-storey buildings ( above 3 floors ), the vertical line has to be secured
against sliding down. Use of a short length of socketed pipe with a fixed clamp
under the socket is recommended.

3.8 Installation in concrete and brick work

Supreme Hi-Tech, Low Noise drainage system can be installed in concrete or brick work provided adequate precautions are
taken. The joints should be covered with a adhesive tape to prevent concrete getting into the gap. In order to prevent lateral
movement during casting ensure that the pipe system does not move during the concreting. No acoustic bridge has to be
allowed between the pipe and the wall, to prevent structure born noise. To achieve this, pipe has to be wrapped with acoustic
proof material like mineral wool.
Stack bottom - A phenomenon at the transition from high to low
velocity in the horizontal pipe at the bottom of a vertical stack where
flow of water changes from vertical to horizontal direction results into a
discontinuity of flow at a short distance down stream of the stack. This
flooding or hydraulic jump constricts air flow resulting into buildup of
pressure which is proportional to the height of the stack itself. In order to
X
weaken the impact intensity and unnecessary turbulence, it is advisable
to use long radius bends or two 45 bends rather than using one 87.50.
Pipe fixing - Fixing of piping system on the wall must be carried out
using appropriate brackets or clamps. There are mainly tow types of
clamps or fixing brackets i.e. fixed clamps and sliding clamps. Fixed
clamps also called fixed points do not allow pipe to move axially whereas
sliding clamps are clamps which anchor the piping system with the wall
or supporting structure but allow axial movement. Metal clamp with
rubber seal which acts as fixed point wherein rubber elements breaks
the sound barrier is required to avoid the transfer of structure borne
sound.

Expansion control - In case of push-fit joints and assemblies, 10 mm 10 mm

space should be left in order to enable the system to stretch longitudinally. This can be
achieved by inserting the pipe for full socket depth and withdrawing it by 10 mm.
Combination of fixed and sliding clamps as per recommendations is essential to take
care of expansion problems.

3.9 Precautions
Only UV stabilized uPVC SWR pipes with rubber ring / click ring or pasted type only should be used. The regular uPVC pressure
pipes with solvent cement jointing when exposed to sun-rays / weather get brittle and brownish and joint get opened due to
thermal expansion.
Use only rubber lubricant for joining SWR pipes and fittings where rubber ring is used.
Avoid over tightening of door caps. Proper placement of rubber ring should be confirmed before tightening.
Avoid misalignment of vertical SWR pipe stacks and incorrect spacing of pipe clips.
Use of rubber ring type joint for horizontal installation requires proper supports and alignment and hence pasted type joint
should be preferred.
Cutting of pipes should be straight, as diagonal cutting may leads to leakage.
All entry to main stacks should be protected with water seal trap, wherever there is mixing of Soil and Waste lines.
Keep a gap of 10 mm between all pipes and fittings to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of pipes for longer
life of the system.
Smoke test should be avoided and test plug/socket plug should be used for testing the lines.
Horizontal lines within bathrooms should be cement encased and tested before compacting of sunken floor to avoid any
accidental damages.
