DEAN, HNU COLLEGE OF LAW

ASSESSMENT OF THE POLITICAL LAW MOCK BAR

1. Some of the students are not following IRAC/CRAC Method of

answering bar questions. While not the required format, the answers
of the students would show that they tend to give their answers in a
disorganized manner.

2. The handwriting of some of the students needs improvement.

3. Some of the students refuse to make a stand when answering a bar

question. They tend to veer towards an it depends answer or
sometimes they would give both a yes and a no answer to a bar
question, which would confuse an examiner/checker when checking
their answers.

4. The students need to improve their skills in spotting the issue in a

given bar problem. The mock bar was about Political Law but some of
them were giving answers in Remedial Law or Criminal Law, while
their answers would reflect a correct answer in those subjects, they
were not giving answers which were intended for a political law
exam.

5. In relation to issue spotting, some students are also giving

unresponsive answers to certain questions posed. They tend to give
answers which do not tackle the issue head on.

6. A few of the students tend to skip or forget certain sub questions.

7. They also would tend to forget to give any legal basis for their
answers and would just outright give the conclusion without any
supporting answer. This is again in relation to their non-use of the
IRAC/CRAC Method.
8. Some of the answers given by the students while already correct
would instead be given a deduction because they would include facts
and laws which should already be omitted in giving their answer. This
would tend to make their answers long and very wordy. Some are
already volunteering facts which have no relation to the question
being posed.
