Clean, free energy

for your home.
Like gliders and
birds, micro wind
turbines use the
energy we feel as
a breeze on our
face and hear in the
rustling of leaves
– a source of energy
that’s free, clean
and everlasting.
NEW Ampair ™ 600:
the beauty of wind energy.

The Ampair 600 is a new micro wind turbine. With a rotor diameter of only 1.7 metres,
it’s especially designed to meet the demand from individual householders for a renewable
energy source.

Recently, micro wind turbines have been hitting the headlines. We all know that the Earth’s
fossil fuels are running out. And while the debate about a nuclear alternative continues,
“renewables” are seen as a safe, clean, reliable and environmentally-friendly source of energy.

Of the three main sources of renewable energy – sun, water and wind – it is the last that
holds most promise for home-owners. (By the way, we have experience in all three areas
of renewable technology, and no bias towards a particular solution.)

The question is: how much difference can wind turbines make? The Ampair 600 has an
electrical output of 0.6kW. Over a year, a single turbine will generate up to a quarter of
the electricity needed for an average three-bedroom semi-detached house. That’s when
the building is in a moderately windy location. Bigger buildings, such as schools, hospitals
and offices can accommodate multiple turbines.

So it is possible to “do your bit” for the environment and demonstrate your commitment to
renewable energy.

In addition to the ecological advantages, there are, of course, financial benefits to installing
a micro wind turbine. Access to a renewable energy source decreases your dependence on
national suppliers. The turbine itself and its positive impact on energy bills can add to the
value of your property and its attractiveness to future buyers.

A wind turbine is an investment in the long-term. So it may be reassuring

to know that Ampair has a substantial track record in this industry. “Greetings from the frozen North. I was

Site surveys.

A wind turbine can be installed high on the

side of a house, or ideally on a mast in an
open area, such as a garden. It should be
high as possible in smoothly flowing winds.
Also the site needs to be suitable for mounting
the turbine safely. If the turbine is installed
on a building it must be securely mounted to

Planning consent.

All permanently installed wind turbines

require planning consent, in the same
way that satellite dishes do. In many other Parapet edge
countries, householders are allowed to
install small wind turbines without formal
permission, and it is possible that may
become the case in the UK as well.

While very few wind turbines in the UK

have been installed with planning consent,
we recommend that you seek it if you want
to be on the safe side. We can apply for Flat roof
planning consent on your behalf.

the industry. It produces a broad spectrum
of background white noise, with no irritating

A brief history of wind energy.

The modern history of wind turbines goes back to at least the 1920s
and agricultural Middle America. With no access to a national grid,
these small turbines were the ideal solution for providing isolated
farmsteads with electricity.

By the 1930s, ecological and political movements across Germany

and Scandinavia encouraged the development of bigger and more
robust turbines to supply the needs of whole communities.

And with the first oil crisis of the 1970s, the whole world suddenly
had to sit up and take notice of renewable energy sources. The state
legislature of California encouraged the development of large-scale
wind farms, a movement mirrored on this side of Atlantic, nowadays
with off-shore installations.

In the UK, small wind turbines have also served remote farms off
the national grid. But Britons also are uniquely fond of caravanning
and ocean sailing – which has created a large and growing demand
for efficient, quiet, and sensibly-priced wind turbine technology.

So, on the one hand, the giant turbines off the coast of Denmark
now supply 20% of the country’s electricity needs, while individual
consumers in the UK are leading a new wave of demand for
renewable energy sources.

Either way, as ‘National Geographic’ said in August 2005, “Wind is

currently the biggest success story in renewable energy.”
