Hi, Michael ,
This feature has available in Teams! Your Tenant admin(s) can now disable
private chat for Microsoft Teams. Youll start to see it in your Teams immediately.

Heres how it works:

1. Navigate to the admin portal

2. Click on Settings

3. Then click on Services & add-ins

4. Then click on Microsoft Teams

5. Here youll find your Tenant-wide settings. Click on Messaging.

6. Select the license type you want to configure.

7. Toggle off Allow users to chat privately. This will remove private chat from
students. Please allow up to 24 hours for a change in this setting to complete.
You can use it selectively enable and disable private chat from any groups of
users so long they share a license type. Thank you for all your help and feedback,
please let me know if you have any issues regarding this feature

Thanks,

Twan C.

Microsoft Teams Chat feature

Hello,

I am using the Microsoft Teams application for Computers and Digital Media
courses I am teaching at G.S. Lakie Middle School in Lethbridge, Alberta,
Canada.

We are experiencing issues with the chat feature (students privately chatting with
each other). The issue is that there is no Teacher monitoring of this chat feature,
or way that a Teacher could access a student's chat history. I was able to mute all
students on the conversation tab, however the chat issue is persisting.

I am looking for a work around to either disable students use of chat's, or to allow
Teachers access to chat history.

Any help with this issue would be very appreciated. If a solution is not found, I
fear that schools will not be able to use Microsoft Teams because of student
issues arising in the chat.

Thank you for your response in finding a solution to this issue,

Michael Krokosh
