OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
A. LOADING
Before loading be certain that all bin gates are in the closed position.
B. UNLOADING
1. After parking truck at unloading location check to see that all
controls are in the neutral position.
2. CAUTION: WATCH FOR OVERHEAD WIRES WHEN
POSITIONING DISCHARGE AUGER AT STORAGE BINS.
3. Engage P.T.O. or drive unit and allow several minutes warm up
time.
4. With engine idling, raise and position discharge auger over the
container to be filled
5. Increase engine speed to recommended R.P.M.
Engage augers in following order:
a. Discharge and vertical
b. Floor auger or floor chain
6. With all augers operating check engine R.P.M. and adjust to
operating speed recommended. Open only one (1) bin at a time,
starting with the back bin then progress toward the front of the
body as the bins are emptied. Whenever possible leave gates open
on empty bins until the body is completely unloaded.
CAUTION: After the first gate is opened the engine speed may
have to be adjusted once more. Correct engine speed is critical.
7. When all material is unloaded, the auger system should be shut
down in the reverse order that it was started:
Disengage augers in the following order:
a. Floor auger or floor chain
b. Discharge and vertical
8. Return auger to the rest saddle and disengage P.T.O. before moving
truck.

Lubrication
ATTENTION
All grease fittings (zerks) should be serviced every 400 operating hours, with two
exceptions. The fittings at the swivel between the discharge auger and the vertical
auger and the fittings at the swivel in the vertical auger should be serviced daily.
When servicing these fittings use NLG1 grade no. 2 Lithium 12-Hydroxysterate
Base Grease or an equivalent.
CAUTION: In order to prevent seal rupture on sealed bearings, use very small
amounts of grease. One good shot from a grease gun should be sufficient as long
as the seals are intact.
Gear Boxes and torque converters should be checked periodically (at least every
six months) and filled with SAE 85W-140 (GL5/MT-1) gear oil. Refill with the
same or an equivalent.
The hydraulic oil now used in Ledwell hydraulic systems is ISO 32 (GL5/MT-1).
Refill with same or equivalent. Using oil of a different quality may damage
hydraulic system.

ATTENTION
When rebuilding a Ledwell torque converter always remember that the least amount of slack
but still allowing free movement of shaft is the desired result. Use shims to reduce slack
when preloading the bearings. Shims are available in thickness of .15, .30, & .60. The
shims are to be used before and after second bearing during assembly.
Keep in mind during assembly that the small spur gear mounted on the hydraulic motor is
tapered. Be sure to place this gear in such a way that its inner taper matches the outer taper
of your motors shaft.
Bearing race removal can be difficult at times. To more easily remove the bearing race,
weld a bead around the center of the inner side of the old race. This should heat the bearing
enough to soften the metal and during the cool down process as the weld hardens the race
will be drawn inward. After cooling completely the bearing race should simply fall out.
Solid and breather plugs are installed in the Ledwell torque converter at different critical
positions. The placement of the breather plugs vary according to your application for your
Ledwell torque converter. Please contact our parts department for assistance with plugs.

Lids do not use a gasket, a small bead of silicone is best to completely seal this gear box.
