There are about 30 species of vulture in the world. Vultures are found everywhere in the
world except for Australia and Antarctica. The species are divided into two groups
namely New World vultures and Old World vultures. You can find the old world vultures
in Asia, Europe and Africa. These species are considered as eagles and hawk relatives.
They are considered different from the new world vulture in a sense that it uses its
spectacular sight alone in order to find food. Vultures feed on dead animals and they eat
whatever left. Vultures like to shred meat, skin and even feathers, and only leave the
bones of the animal remaining.
On the other hand, the new world vultures are found in the Americas. Even though there
are some similarities between the old world vulture and the new world vulture, zoologists
believe that they are connected through evolutionary status rather than DNA. The new
world vultures are a little bit smaller than the old world vultures.
Vultures are endangered animals. Their species are threatened with extinction. Vultures
have been poisoned by eating poisonous dead livestock which have been given toxic
medicine. They have also been killed by poachers who do not want vultures to take their
poaching locations. The poachers also poison the dead elephant to kill the vultures.
