Presidents Corner
Dear Members,
I hope that you all are enjoying the remaining summer and The Labor Day Weekend.
Club Officers Our condolences and prayers go out to Uncle Richie Antous who was a longtime member of the club
Mike Caravakis whom we lost last month. He had long time commitment to the club and will always be remembered.
President He was one of the first members to welcome me to the club nearly 20 years ago;

Ghassan Najm We will have our First cleanup Day at The Club Saturday September 23rd from 1 pm to 4
Vice President We need participants to assist in getting old items out of the club so that we can continue enhancing and
replacing some of the items such as the dining chairs, the rec room and the storage areas.
Jimmy Glynn We will have a dumpster in our parking lot and food will be served afterwards!
Secretary
Bill Asmar will begin selling the 50/50 Raffle Tickets soon. This is one of our biggest fund raisers
Lou Najamy and I would like to thank Bill for all his hard work on this as always; I would like to see each member
Asst. Secretary buy one and sell one;
William Asmar Our Christmas Party date is set for December 9th to be followed with Children party on Sunday December 17.
Treasurer Our building looks great as the graffiti was removed and that section of the building was repainted in addition
to the shed by our follow member Camille Atallah Ace Painting crew. It is greatly appreciated.
Mark Chory I also would like to thank John Ashkar the Chair of the house committee for his continued follow up on this and
Asst. Treasurer other house items.
John Ashkar I ask your support for all upcoming events this month, including Monday Night Football, the Ladies Auxiliary
Past President Scholarship Mid-Eastern Dinner Benefit, Pasta Night, Friday Night Dinners and attending Tuesdays meetings.

Person Of the Year Award Banquet October 19
David Glynn The Person of the year committee is pleased to announce the selection of, Evelyn E. Ellis of Danbury, and Dr.
John Monnayer Ziad M. Taweh of Newtown from a list of outstanding nominees, as the honorees for this years awards event
that will be held on Thursday October 19th at the Amber Room in Danbury. They have been members of the
Dick Jowdy Ladies Auxiliary, the Club, St. Anthony's and St. Ann's churches respectively, as they have had a lifetime of
Former President contributions to the advancement of the Lebanese and Arabic Speaking Community in Danbury and the greater
Danbury Community at large.
Ladies Auxiliary Formal invitations to be mailed to Club and Ladies Auxiliary Members by mid-September. Those who plan on
Officers attending the event and/or submitting an ad for the Commemorative Program Book should send the invitations

News Staff Corner:
Did you notice a bit of chill in the air lately? Natures way of letting us know that our Fall season is close at hand. This
means Monday Night Football, LAC Auxiliarys Scholarship Fundraiser Dinner, Persons of the Year Awards Dinner, just to
name a few. All information, dates, and contact info. can be found in the following pages as well as the calendar on the back
cover.
We are still looking for reader input for the newsletter. Trips, celebrations, births, marriages, any family news, as well as
comments concerning this newsletter will be greatly appreciated. They could be sent to the clubs email address:
[email protected] or mailed to LAC, 22 West Street, Danbury, CT, 06810. We are sure many members have had an
interesting summer so why not share it with your fellow members.
How about some Newsletter Business? Payment for Newsletter ads is coming up soon. There are several businesses wanting
to advertise in our newsletter and due to the limited number of blocks we cant plan on next years ads. Current ad
subscribers will be receiving renewal letters within the next few weeks. Please respond to them as soon as possible so that we
can be ready for the 2018 Newsletter format. Remember those ad subscribers have preference for the limited spaces in the
newsletter. For those current subscribers thank you for your continued support, remember this newsletter costs the treasury
little if any money due to your support.

Member News:
Be sure to check the events section and calendar for times and dates of all activities of LAC and regional events.
It is good to see our maintenance man, Frankie, out of the hospital and up and about. He still has some medical issues to be
resolved so keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Welcome back! We also sadden to report and offer Frank and his
siblings our sincere condolences on the passing his mother Lottie J. Schlemmer, 97 on August 25th. May she rest in peace.
Regrettable News:
With great sadness, we mourn the loss of our follow member Richard J. Antous, 89 and Most Rev. Bishop Robert J. Shaheen
80, on August 9, both of Danbury. We offer our sincere sympathy and condolences to the respective families and friends,
many of whom are also members of our club and of the Ladies Auxiliary. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with their
families during these difficult times. May they rest in peace! Alla Yerhamon.
