SLDC MAINTENANCE

Once all the SLDC phases are completed, the product is installed on end users. And in future if
end user faces some issues maintenance done by the organization who developed it. when the
customers starts using the developed system then the actual problems comes up and needs to be
solved from time to time. This process where the care is taken for the developed product is known as
maintenance Maintenance phase is also called as mute phase. Because in this phase if any problem
arise only Developers and Test Engineer have to work. In this phase it Keep the system running for the
required duration, including updates to hardware or software. It fixing errors, providing updates, and
ensuring the software continues to work as expected SDLC. During this phase, tested software is
released to production and the software is deployed in customer's environment by release team. Any
defects/improvements identified thereafter by customer are addressed by maintenance team.

Maintenance, often turned support, is a crucial activity for linking the experiences of users/customers
with the product delivery organization. We consider perspectives on high tech maintenance from bug
fixing through to design focused activities.

The maintenance activities are performed by the maintenance team (consists of few developers,
testers, project management executive) that is formed by Project Manager.
Software Maintenance is of three types as described below:

a. Modifications

i. Corrective changes Defects found during production phase require emergency fixes or corrective
changes as these are not identified during the Testing phase.

ii. Enhancements If customer wants new functionalities to be added to the current system then they
are considered as Enhancements.

b. Migration Migrating the software from old technology to new technology.

Example: Migrating software from MS Access to SQL Server/Oracle

c. Retirement Retiring the old system and developing new system

Example: Changing II-Tier Application to Web application

SLDC saves money - on maintenance. Since maintenance / change is the most expensive phase, the
easier you make it, the less you will spend in the long run.
