Experiment 6 Part 3
Objective:
To design and implement analog circuits and design filters using Multisim
Procedure.
This is Part 3 of experiment 6. This is a continuation of Experiment 6, but this time you will perform
the experiment using Multisim. As before, you only need to submit one report per group; however,
this part of the experiment must be completed individually. So for the report each of the group
members must submit this part along with the group report with the circuits properly labelled to
identify you.
Follow the same procedure as in experiment 6 before and build the circuits as indicated in Parts 1
and 2. That is:
Use the AC Voltage source and set the Vpp to 4 V, as before. The frequency will vary as in the
previous section of the experiment.
Use the Tektronix Oscilloscope to display and measure your voltages and timing information.
Your first circuit should look like this when set up.
And the scope display with the input and output, something like this:
For this part of the report, each one should submit (remember that this individual part will be
included in the group report for parts 1 and 2):
1. A snapshot of both circuits (just like the one shown here previously). Remember to be neat
and organized.
2. Tables 1 and 2 data (using the virtual instruments) associated with each circuit as in the
previous parts 1 and 2 of the experiment.
3. Sketch of the Bode plots obtained from Tables 1 and 2. Remember: 20log |H(w)| versus
frequency. What is the difference between circuits 1 and 2?
4. Calculate the cutoff frequency for the first circuit. Compare with the results obtained from
the experiment.
5. Swap the resistor and capacitor from the first circuit. Now the output is across R. Complete
the contents of Table 1 for this case and plot this new result. Sketch the Bode plot. What is
the effect of this swap? Explain.
Your report discussion should include results and opinions related to the use of Multisim to
carry out this experiment.
