Erasing Tapes
Erase Media is a physical operation that will mount the tape and overwrite the OML header and optionally the entire

is considered a destructive operation so it cannot be performed on any tapes where jobs are actively being retained. The
option to erase media will be available in all logical groups except the Assigned Media group.

Selective
Synchronous Copy
A Synchronous Copy defines a secondary copy to synchronize protected data with a source copy. All valid data (jobs that
completed successfully) written to the source copy is copied to the synchronous copy via an update process called an
Auxiliary Copy operation. This means that all full, incremental, differential, transaction log, or archive jobs from a source
copy will be copied to the synchronous copy. Synchronous copies are useful when you want a consistent point-in-time
copy for any point within the cycle of all protected data available for restore.
Selective Copy
A Selective Copy allows automatic selection of specific full backups or manual selection of any backup for additional
protection. Selective copy options allow the time based automatic selection of: all, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly,
quarterly, half yearly, and/or yearly full backups. Advanced options allow you to generate selective copies based on a
frequency of number of cycles, hours, days, weeks, or months. You can also choose the Do Not Automatically Select
Jobs option which allows you to manually select jobs to copy to the Selective Copy.
2. Right-click on Simple Disk (CVMA-1) storage policy and from menu select All Tasks | Create New Copy.
The Copy Properties dialog box appears.
Best Practice for your environment: Synchronous Secondary copies can be alternate source
copies for any other secondary copy in the storage policy. If a secondary copy is created, an auxiliary
copy job should be scheduled. Having an unscheduled secondary copy will affect retention on the
source copy.

a. Note that Enable DASH Copy (Transfer only unique data segments to target) is selected.
Best Practice for your environment: Global Deduplication Policies are best used for secondary
storage policy copies to fan-in/consolidate remote copies to a central location. For example, data
from local sales offices copied to a central corporate site.

If a schedule is associated with a schedule policy, the policy name is listed in the first column.
Schedules can be edited, deleted, disabled or executed by right-clicking on the job schedule.
For clients with a large amount of scheduled jobs consider using the Job Schedule report for a more
consolidated view.
Though client schedules can be viewed at the CommCell level using the Schedule icon, viewing schedules in
the client tree provides a simplified view easing administration, especially in large environments.

Best Practice for your environment: Test your filters by doing an incremental backup. Look at the
list of protected files to see if you are still backing up objects you dont need or missing objects that
you do need.
Best Practice: Use Global filters for ease of management/maintenance. At the subclient level use
exceptions to limit the application of Global filters. Additionally, it is recommended to filter application
and data files if using an application iDataAgent. For example, filter the SQL Database and Log
volumes if using the SQL iDataAgent.

the window.
Reports can be scheduled, saved to a specific location or saved as templates. Templates are accessible in the CommCell
Browser by expanding Reports and selecting My Reports.
