    2018 Wellstone Attendance Policy - (For Students)

    Excused/Unexcused Absences
    Absences can be excused with a signed written note or printed document,
    or a phone call or visit by the students legal guardian to the Wellstone
    main office (Or the student if over 18).
    Absences should be excused within one week after the students return to
    school
    Excused absences include:
    o Emergency medical appointment (Regular Dr. appts. should
    happen outside of school hours)
    o Government-related appointment
    o School athletic competitions
    o Out of school suspension
    o Religious/cultural observance
    o Family emergency for up to 3 days per year
    o Funeral for up to 4 days
    o Family activity or vacation for up to 5 days
    o Athletic, dramatic, or musical event
    o Illness or injury
    Unexcused absences include
    o Reason for absence is unknown
    o Unacceptable written or verbal reason for absence
    o Skipping class (see below)
    o Protesting or demonstrating outside of the school (Students will not
    be allowed back in the building for the remainder of the day)
    o Work

    Skipping Class
    Students are required to be in their scheduled class unless they have a
    pass.
    A student is skipping class, and will receive a consequence* if he or she:
    o Is on the school property (cafeteria, media center, other classroom,
    hallway), but not in his or her scheduled class.
    o Leaves the school building during school hours without permission

    Tardy Policy
    Teachers take attendance at the beginning of class.
    The number a minutes late is recorded in the students attendance record
    Excessive tardiness will result in a consequence*

    *Consequences
    If a student is out of compliance with any of these items, it may result in:
    o Bus card being turned off during weekends and breaks.
    o Phone call or meeting with a parent/guardian.

    Attendance Contract
    Students with an attendance percentage below 85%, and are likely to age out
    before graduation, will be required to follow this attendance contract and check in
    weekly with the attendance team lead:
    I, ______________________________, agree to maintain 85% attendance.

    If I do not meet this requirement, I understand that it is possible that I will age out at age 21
    before achieving all necessary credits. Therefore, I will be transferred to a different program to
    continue my education.

    Students with an attendance percentage below 85%, but are not likely to age out
    before graduation, will be required to follow this attendance contract and check in
    weekly with the attendance team lead:

    If I do not meet this requirement, I understand that I will:


    Be required to have all of my teachers sign an attendance check every day,
    Be required to make up my absences by coming to school early, staying after school, or
    coming into school on Saturday
    Not be allowed to attend field trips or participate in school events
