Illustration 1
When you test, use oil that is at the temperature of 65C (150F).
(4) Torque for two screws ... 4.0 0.4 Nm (35 4 lb in)
(10) Put 9-S3263 Thread Lock Compound on threads and tighten rod to a torque. ... 79 4
Nm (60 3 lb ft)
(12) Torque for two plugs ... 12.85 .15 Nm (114 1 lb in)
(15) Use shims that are needed in order to obtain end play. ... 0.01 0.10 mm (0.0004
0.004 inch)
First test
Length under test force ... 42.8 mm (1.7 inch)
Test force ... 614 61 N (138 14 lb)
Second test
Length under test force ... 40.1 mm (1.6 inch)
Test force ... 645 65 N (145 15 lb)
Free length after test ... 89.4 mm (3.5 inch)
Outside diameter ... 42.9 mm (1.7 inch)
(18) Put 9-S3263 Thread Lock Compound on threads and tighten rod to a torque. ... 79 4
Nm (60 3 lb ft)
Note: Do not install the barrel assembly or pistons for this procedure.
2. Remove control cylinder (17), bias cylinder (9) and bias spring (11) from head (14)
.
3. Install the bearing cone (19) that is on the splined end of shaft (21) and install the
bearing cups that are in housing (20). Be sure that the cups and the cone are against
the locating shoulders.
4. Install the shaft and the bearing cone into housing (20) .
5. Install bearing cone (13) on shaft (21) without shims (15). Install the bearing cup in
head (14). Be sure that the cup and the cone are against the locating shoulders.
Note: Two of the bolts are replaced by studs in order to assist in aligning the head
and the housing for assembly.
8. Position the pump so shaft (21) is straight up with the splined end at the top.
9. Rotate shaft (21) backward and forward several times in order to seat the bearings.
10. Place a dial indicator so the tip of the indicator is on the end of shaft (21). Set the
dial indicator to zero.
11. Place vise grip pliers underneath the shaft spline and lift up on shaft (21). Read the
dial indicator while the shaft is under upward force.
12. Subtract desired end play of 0.064 0.038 mm (0.0025 0.0015 inch) from the
dimension that is measured in Step 11. This is the thickness of shims (15) that is
required to obtain proper shaft end play.
Table 1
Example
End play from Step 12
1.016 mm (0.0400 inch)
- Desired end play -
0.064 0.038 mm (0.0025 0.0015 inch)
Required shim thickness =
0.952 0.038 mm (0.0375 0.0015 inch)
13. Remove six bolts (6) and (8). Then remove head (14) from housing (20) .
15. Install correct thickness of shims (15) from Step 12 on shaft (21), and reinstall
bearing cone (13) .
16. Repeat Steps 6 through 11. If measured end play is not 0.025 0.100 mm (0.0010
0.004 inch), then repeat Steps 12 through 16.
