Data Over TETRA
Short Data Applications
SDAs is a unique way of presenting data in a user friendly way
SDAs can generate specific SDSs which can be interpreted by
control systems
SDAs can display messages without user interaction
SDAs can offer users choices which determine further actions
SDAs can manipulate the User Interface and keep important
information on the Status Line.
SDAs are best exploited using other unique Sepura features
Sepura Public Protocol,Time Stamping, GPS, Performance
Monitoring.
SDAs are completely unique to Sepura
Data Over TETRA
Status Messages
Status messages are a very efficient way of sending pre-defined text
messages
Status messages use a 16bit predifined number
There are 32767 user defined statuss available within the TETRA
standard
Sepura offers the unique feature of being able to initiate approx 100
terminal functions using recieved Status Messages.
Sepura offers the unique feature of being able to encapsulate a
Time Stamp with a Status message.

Sepura Public Protocol
SPP give the ability to manipulate Talk Groups and Folders Over the
Air
SPP responds to queries from backend systems
SPP allows the use of the aliasing protocol
SPP provides a framework for Database queries
SPP allows for local time offset adjustment
SPP allows for Targeted Terminal talk group queries.

GPS Control
Sepura Terminals allow full manipulation of GPS settings Over the
Air
Destination Addressing to two AVL systems for example Mobile and
Fixled line control systems
Changing of Reporting Distance and Time over the air
Changing of Reporting Destination over the air allowing for Situation
based reports.
Changing of GPS formats over the Air from the very data intense
NMEA strings to the extremely efficient TETRA Standard GPS LIP
Format.
Data Over TETRA
SDA versus WAP
SDS was designed to be part of TETRA at the start
SDS can be simultaneous to voice
SDS is efficient and fast no additional overheads
SDS requires no additional network elements. All existing TETRA
networks support SDS.
WAP has data overheads
WAP requires a WAP server on network side.
WAP requires a Gateway if internet is required
WAP has different variations which cause interoperabilty issues
between all manufacturers
A database query over WAP could take minutes a database query over
SDS using SDA could be as quick as 500ms.
WAP is a protocol designed for Mobiles to transmit and receive
information over the GSM networks not TETRA.
