Stavesacre is a biennial plant native to Southern Europe and Asia Minor. It has striking variegated leaves in its first year and an outrageous fountain of purple flowers in its second year. While highly toxic, homeopathic dilutions have been used by qualified practitioners to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer. Stavesacre requires extra care in cultivation - sowing seed in fall, midwinter, or early spring in warm, well-draining soil with 1-2 feet spacing and providing full sun or partial shade.
