HOW TO USE BRAHMI ON THE HAIR:

There are many ways that you can reap the benefits of Brahmi. There are a few
options that will help obtain the best possible results. Here are three application
options that you can try at home:

1. Creating an herbal infusion: Mix the brahmi powder with ashwagandha, tulsi,
neem, amla and bhringraj. Boil some water and add it to the mixture. Allow the
herbs to create an infusion with the water. All you need to do is allow the water and
the jar to sit overnight in a jar with a tight lid. After the infusion is ready, strain the
leaves and the powder out. Use the liquid that you get to rinse your hair after
shampooing it. This is a time consuming process that you may only try over the
weekends or on your day off.

2. Make a paste: Add the brahmi powder, amla powder and ashwagandha powder
into a bowl. Mix them well and slowly add warm water. Stir the powder as you add
water to make a smooth paste. The consistency of this paste should be similar to
yoghurt. Allow this mixture to soak for a while and then apply it on your hair. Let the
paste dry completely. After that, you can rinse it off with only water for nourished
hair. This is a process that does not consume too much time.

3. Combine it with coconut water: To a cup of water, add a cup of coconut water. To
this add brahmi powder and amla powder. Mix it well till it forms a thick paste. Apply
this paste on your hair and let it dry. Once it is dry wash it off with water. Make sure
that you do not use any shampoo to wash this paste off

4. Additional Benefits -Brahmi has many other benefits in addition to helping hair
growth. Brahmi is known as a miracle herb. Brahmi is considered a very powerful
tonic for the brain and the nerves. It is great to improve memory and improve brain
function. Joint pain, eczema and fever are other health conditions that can be cured
with the help of Brahmi. It is also known to reduce anxiety and stress when
consumed internally. Brahmi also stimulates the growth of hair and development of
healthy skin.

Brahmi is one of the Ayurvedic herbs used to help enhance brain function. Its
medicinal benefits have been researched through multiple clinical trials
in India and America. Brahmi is packed with antioxidants and contains several
biochemical compounds that enhance the function of neurotransmitters in the
brain. Studies suggest brahmi may help you maintain mental clarity as you age.
Brahmis ability to stimulate dopamine receptors has been used in the treatment of
depression and Parkinsons disease. Brahmi is also used to help remove toxins from
the blood, increase circulation, reduce inflammation and relieve asthma through its
bronchiodialating properties. It is also used in Ayurveda to improve thyroid
functionBacopa monnieri interacts with the dopamine and serotonergic systems, but
its main mechanism concerns promoting neuron communication. It does this by
enhancing the rate at which the nervous system can communicate by increasing
the growth of nerve endings, also called dendrites. Bacopa monnieri is also an
antioxidant. Brahmi powder is extracted from the raw leaves of the herb. It is then
typically ingested, though some ancient traditions distill the herb into oil which can
be applied topically. Brahmi comprises of two main chemical constituents as active
molecules namely:

Bacoside A Supports healthy circulatory system.

Bacoside B Supports healthy nervous system and healthy brain function.

Research with humans has used an extract standardized for 55 percent bacosides,
as noted by the UMHS, taken in daily doses of 300 to 450 mg.

Dosage for Stress Symptoms

Brahmi may be beneficial for relieving symptoms of stress and anxiety, at doses of
50 to 100 mg taken three times per day, according to the UMMC. Along with
relieving symptoms resulting from generally stressful situations, this dosage of
Brahmi may be helpful for treating hypochondriasis, a fear or preoccupation with
the possibility of having serious illness. It also may help lessen symptoms of post-
traumatic stress disorder, commonly called PTSD. This condition may develop after
an extremely stressful or frightening event, particularly if feelings of helplessness
were involved.

Dosage for General Mental Functioning

Research using 300 mg of Brahmi per day has found benefits for mental functioning.
A study published in the August 2001 issue of "Psychopharmacology" observed
participants taking either bacopa or a placebo for 12 weeks. Bacopa
supplementation appeared to significantly increase participants' speed of visual
information processing, and improve learning rate and memory. Additionally, during
a study published in the July 2008 issue of the "Journal of Alternative and
Complementary Medicine," healthy participants aged 65 and older received either a
placebo or 300 mg of bacopa daily. Those taking bacopa experienced both
enhanced word recall memory and ability to ignore irrelevant information. They also
experienced a decrease in depression and anxiety scores compared to the placebo
group.

ProHow To make Brahmi Amla Hair Oil

If you have never made hair oil at home you can start with this one. You will learn
how easy it is to make your own hair products. Plus, you can be assured of its purity.
Like you do in cooking, send in good vibrations and see it nourishing your hair.

To make brahmi-amla hair oil you will need:

2 tablespoons brahmi powder (gotu kola)

1 tablespoon amla powder

1 tablespoon hibiscus powder (optional)

100ml sesame oil

30 ml olive oil

20 ml castor oil

5 drops chamomile essential oil (optional)

5 drops lavender essential oil (optional)

Method:

We are going to use double boiler method to make this oil. Basically, you need a big
pan and a narrow bottom bowl or pot that fits over it.

CBrahmi-AmlaPot1
Place brahmi powder, amla powder, (hibiscus powder) and sesame oil in the top
bowl. You can use stainless steel bowl or glass one its what you like or rather what
is available.

Cbrahmi-amlaheat1

Fill the bottom pan with 1/3 water and bring the water to a boil. Reduce the flame
once the water starts to boil. Place the herb and oil bowl on the top. I infused the oil
for about two hours anywhere from hour and a half to two hours is good time to
get all the goodness of the herbs into the oil. (When you are half way just check that
you have sufficient water in the pan holding the bowl so it doesnt go dry).

Stir the oil every half an hour or so I love the aroma that comes out when you stir
it.

Allow the oil to cool enough to be handled and then strain into a glass bottle or jar.

Now add in almond oil, castor oil and essential oils (if using) into the jar. Stir well to
combine all the oils and store in a cool dark place away from direct sunlight. Do not
forget to label it!

Your homemade brahmi-amla hair oil is ready for use.

How To Apply Brahmi-Amla Oil

When applying brahmi-amla oil, you can either warm the oil by standing it in hot
water for few minutes or use as is. If you are suffering from hair loss, dont warm
the oil. While those of you wanting to condition their hair can warm it a bit this will
enhance penetration.

Apply to your scalp and massage gently using your finger pads. After you finish
massaging your scalp, run fingers along the length of your hair, paying special
attention to the dry areas like the ends.

How long you should leave on will depend on how much time you have, but I would
suggest at least one hour, and if possible leave it overnight. Make this practice a
form of meditation. Just focus on the nourishing process and imagine your hair
getting healthier, stronger and shiner. Wash it out with a natural shampoo and let
your hair dry naturally to awesome looking hair.

Other Oils and Buying Tip

The combination that I used for making brahmi-amla oil sesame/ olive/ castor oil
is best for dry hair and hair growth.

Those with fine or oily hair, use a combination of coconut/sweet almond/castor oil.
You can also use this blend for hair loss and thinning hair.

Feel free to experiment with other oils. Other beneficial oils for your scalp and hair
are jojoba, coconut, avocado, wheat germ, evening primrose, and flaxseed.
Whichever oils you choose always buy cold pressed ones, as they retain maximum
nutrients.

Brahmi Amla Hair Growth Complex: Those of you looking for a natural hair growth
vitamin, heres a good one. It contains brahmi leaf, amla fruits, bhringraj leaf, and
hibiscus flower extract.

Alternatively, you can buy the whole herbs and drink their teas.

Enjoy nourishing your hair!

Health Benefits

Because of its healing properties, Brahmi oil can be used in a number of health
conditions.

1. As a Hair Oil

Brahmi oil is one of the best natural remedies for slow hair growth and other hair
conditions[7]. It can be applied directly on the hair as a leave in conditioner, or as a
hot oil scalp massage. When this oil is applied, it cools the scalp and provides relief
from itching and irritation. It soothes the scalp and improves the condition of hair in
a few weeks.

It prevents hair fall. Regular application of Brahmi oil can boost hair growth. This is
helpful for people who want to accelerate their hair growth.

It strengthens hair roots by providing them nutrition and antioxidant protection from
free radicals.

2. As a Natural Sleep Remedy

People who are unable to sleep or suffer from insomnia can get relief by using this
oil. There are two ways to use Brahmi oil to induce sleep.

Add few drops of Brahmi essential oil to bath water and take a warm water bath.

Massage the scalp with warm Brahmi oil. Continue the scalp massage for about 10
minutes to experience a sleepy, relaxed state of the body.

Brahmi essential oil can be used to calm anxiety. It can be diffused in the air inside
using a vaporizer or an oil burner. Alternatively, one can deeply inhale brahmi
essential oil to relieve anxious feelings.

4. Treat an Ulcer
The herb Bacopa monnieri has the ability to relieve a mouth ulcer. If an ulcer breaks
out, apply a small amount of brahmi oil on it. This oil protects it from the sting
caused by food and also promotes healing of the ulcer.

5. Scalp Massage Health Benefits

A scalp massage using Brahmi oil has many more health benefits than just for the
hair.

It reduces stress and mental exhaustion.

It promotes sleep.

It improves concentration and memory power. The person is able to remember

much more information. It can help adults deal with memory related conditions like
dementia.

It alleviates epilepsy. Regular massage with this oil tones the nerves and the brain.
Frequency of epileptic seizures are reduced.

Brahmi oil is strongly anti-inflammatory. One can apply it to alleviate pain and
inflammation in a joint, or in other parts of the body. One can massage it to alleviate
common pains like joint pain, back pain, headache and the like. It also has an
analgesic effect which provides temporary relief from pain.

Brahmi herb has shown promise in Alzheimers disease as it boosts cognitive

function. However, it is not certain whether the simple technique of scalp massage
can provide this health benefit.

8. Be Alert when needed

Brahmi herb boosts blood flow to the brain. This is a long term process in which the
brain regularly gets more blood supply when Brahmi oil is massaged. Although the
oil induces a calming sensation during the scalp massage, it improves the alertness
of the person during the day, or when needed.
9. Abdominal Massage

Applying brahmi oil on the abdomen can help a person pass intestinal gas. This
alleviates gas pain, indigestion and upset stomach.

Side Effects, Safe Dosage and Toxicity Issues

can mild side effects, like nausea and vomiting if ingested. However, the oil may be
fatal in large doses. The herb Bacopa monnieri has an LD 50 of 2400 mg/kg which is
the lethal dose.

Brahmi oil should not be pregnant women, nursing women and children. There is no
data about the interactions of medication with brahmi, or its oil. So, one should
consult the doctor before using this herbal oil during a treatment period.

Nutritional and Medicinal Information

Brahmi oil contains the nutrients from both the herbs, Gotu Kola and Bacopa if it is
prepared from both of them. It also provides nutrition from the carrier oil, like
sesame oil. The fatty acids and nutrients in carrier oil can boost the absorption and
delivery of certain nutrients from the herb. This way they work in synergy.

The nutrition provided by Brahmi oil comes from the nutrients in the herb. In this
regard, most of the health benefits are due to the herb Bacopa monnieri. These are
the prominent compounds found in this herb which may be present in the herb
infused oil.

Bacosides a series of saponins. These are the class of compounds which are
responsible for the effects of Brahmi oil on the brain and nervous system.

Alkaloids This includes brahmine, the common nicotine and herpestine.

Flavones like apigenin.

D-mannitol, a very useful compound. Used to reduce intercranial pressure.

Cucurbitacin bitter compound commonly seen in pumpkin family.

Hersaponin exerts many pharmacological effects on the nervous system.

Buying and Storage

There are many varieties of Brahmi oil, depending on the base oil and the herb from
which it is extracted. It is best to go for organic Brahmi oil, one which is produced
without the use of harmful chemicals. One should take note of cheap filler oils used
as base oils. Brahmi oil should be kept away from the sunlight. Then it would have a
long shelf life.
