This step-by-step activity demonstrates how to use the Split Edge command.

Use Split Edge to divide a single edge into two separate edges at the location you specify. Split Edge lets you split any polygon edge in your model into two
separate edges. You may want to split an edge when:

You want to define separate boundary conditions on different portions of an edge.

You're preparing to split a face.

Options in the Split Edge dialog box let you define the location where the software splits the edge.

Where do I find it?

With a FEM file active, on the Model Cleanup toolbar, click Split Edge .

Type

Lets you select the method to use to split the edge.

Location on Edge: Divides the edge at a point you select.

Point Project on Edge: Divides the edge by projecting a point onto the edge. The software uses a closest point method to project

the selected point to the edge. The software splits the edge at the location of the projected point.

Point Project Along a Vector: Divides the edge by projecting a point onto the edge along a specified vector. The software splits the
edge at the location that represents the closest point projection of the point along the vector.

Split Location

If you select Location on Edge from the Type menu, lets you select the point at which the software splits the edge.

Edge to Split

Select Edge
If you select either Project Point on Edge or Project Point Along a Vector from the Type menu, lets you select the edge to split.
