Summary:
Inside the office, Mother Superior and Sister Vitalis conversing about the disobedient
student they have. Before that, the usual sisters kneeled to pray. Right after giving their deep
prayers to Him, Sister Vitalis opened up about their student who is soon to be expelled by
Mother Superior due to her poor conduct and behavior in school. Sister Vitalis plead to Mother
Superior that she cannot be expelled and defended the student that she is not a bad child. Mother
Superior opposed her due to her soft heart and asked her to make it hard that she should not be
too kind for people who are stubborn and very hard-headed. They remember expelling a girl
named Elsa due also to disobedience which they caught a pack of love letters to a basketball
player in the boys school next door under her pillow which is against their rule. They have
talked that the current disobedient student must have expelled long ago but it was discontinued
because of Sister Vitalis pleadings. But not now anymore. For Mother Superior received
different complains from different sisters regarding the poor performance in school of Yolanda
not participating in class, quarrelling with her classmates and her disrespectful act shes been
showing. They heard a knock on the door and it was her. Sister Vitalis left the room and left
Mother Superior and Yolanda alone to converse about her issues. Mother Superior asked her
about what shes been doing lately. She remembered the times that she was still a bright child
and now, she can be considered as a trouble in the convent whats worse, she was caught
having a conversation with this male servant and found a letter under her pillow. Mother
Superior nevertheless decided to tell her that the only thing she could do to stop her chaos in the
convent is the expel her. Yolanda was shocked that she asked for another chance but Mother
Superior cannot take her anymore that she doesnt know what to do with her but to let go off of
her. Sister Vitalis came back to the room and reported to Mother Superior that someone is
already in the porteria. It was Yolandas father waiting at the porteria so Mother Superior
exchanged with Sister Vitalis in the room and get herself to Yolandas father. Yolanda spoke to
Sister Vitalis that she cannot be expelled and return to her province with her father because hell
just punish her. She tried to make Sister Vitalis understand and explained the incident about the
servant he talked to. She needed affection and love that her family wasnt able to give not until
her mother passed away. She found the attention she was seeking from that servant who studies
law and explained further that Sister Vitalis and he are the only ones who are capable of
understanding her. Until Mother Superior asked Mother Theresa to drag Yolanda out of the room
to help her pack her things up. Upon accompanying her to the marble stairs through her father,
she fell and died.

A young girl who is about to turn 16 is not comfortable anymore with the strict rules in
her environment. Since the play is all about the repression in Catholic School, Yolanda was an
example of being unhappy with her life in the convent. Knowing her mother who died and
having a violent father, and staying in a place which isnt compatible anymore to her, gave her
the tendency to oppose to the given set of rules in the convent. She is asking for freedom and
wanting a life thats never been given to her. Yolanda seeks love, attention, affection which her
father cannot provide. In that kind of age, the millennial really have the tendency to rebel if their
home is not happy. Because it all starts at home - The happiness, the knowledge, the teachings,
the love, care and communication, it must be taught and exchanged in homes.
