The
impacts truly give unexpected disaster to our environment and humankind. It
also has been spreading and being one of the UN priorities. Yet there is
considerable uncertainty regarding the social and environmental impact due
to the limited capabilities of existing physics-based models of the Earth
system. Temperature of the earths surface has been increased about 0.85 0C
(1.4F) in the last 100 years. The impacts slowly affect territories around the
world, including in Asia. Indonesia is one of the country that also has highest
vulnerable of climate change impact, mostly on the environment. The
increasing of land conversion and deforestation boosts the contributions of
the problems. For example, the change of temperature and climate contribute
to the risk of disasters, in Indonesia disaster occurs so often latterly. Floods
and earthquakes are recorded several times in the past few years.
There are many factors that cause climate change, which is the primary
caused is the burning fossil fuels such as oil and coal that emits greenhouse
gases into the atmosphere that mostly contains carbon dioxide. Scientists
believe that gases released from industry and agriculture (known as
emissions) are adding to the natural greenhouse effect and caused global
warming itself. The concentration of CO 2 in the atmosphere also increases
year by year. In the 2015, it was higher than at any time in the last 800,000
years and reached a record high on May in that year 1. This diagram below
shows the description.
The changes of temperature, weather, sea levels, water cycle, and even the food
supplies may cause a chaos condition someday if we do nothing from now. In
Africa for example, some regions are likely to experience water shortages. The
result in large increases the number of people at risk of water scarcity, and in the
length of the growing season may increase risk of hunger. In some countries,
yields from rain-fed agriculture could be reduced by up to 50% by 2020. In the
Asia region, glacier melting in the Himalayas is virtually certain to disrupt the

water supply within the next 20 to 30 years 2. Besides of that, the diseases will

could exacerbate cholera in South Asia.

On the graphic we can see that human factors can be catalyst for the increasing
of temperature. Greenhouse gases warm the atmosphere, aerosols also cool it a
little bit, of course Ozon and land-use changes add and subtract a little. Together
they match the observed temperature particularly since 1950 4.
So based on the description before, we really need to realize and start thinking
how to minimize the impacts of climate change in our environment. Stop it
before the problem truly crushes the earth we live. Of course to do the action we
need support from the massive one, the people of the nation. Not only collective
action but also in this case, we should think the effective and innovative way. As
we know, technology has given so much benefit in our life nowadays. We easily
get information from social networking through internet. From that, actually we
can make the best use of this technology advancement in solving problems of
climate change. We can initiate the movement such as crowdsourcing to utilize
and unite people around the world together do the same action in saving the
earth especially by utilizing technology or internet. The mainstreaming,
awareness among societies or collective movement will give real impacts for our
environment, if all the people gather together participate in decreasing the gas
emissions. I believe that crowdsourcing can be one of alternative solutions we
can try to combat this problem. The several ideas which can be recommendation
for the problem solving due to climate change are:
2. Do collective intelligence
By doing the collective intelligence like what MIT did, called Climate CoLab
is also can be a good thing. This initiative gives such online makerspace
that allows climate activists, scientists and experts to share knowledge
and collaborate on concrete solutions to reduce climate change problems.
This online platform is open to everyone, everywhere and whenever. Doing
simply to just participate or be involved in sharing knowledge and do the
collective action together around the world will be a great movement in
reducing the impact of climate change. Need to take a note, that we can
collaborate and formulate the best solution or project that possible to do
and be implemented into reality. This alternative will be great thing if all of
the specialist, experts, and professionals participate and help each other
to create a real solution for climate change problems.
3. Change the behavior of the human itself
The movement to combat the climate change should be started from each
of us as a human. We need to stop using commodities that increase the
concentrations of the emissions such as carbon dioxide. One person who
participates in decreasing is really matter that at least it will minimize the
impact. Imagine if each of us participates in the movement like this, I
believe that there will be no issue of ozone depletion or climate change
anymore. Moreover, to respond the problem of garbage that also
contributes to the methane gases. People also need to habituate sorting
the trash and reducing overall garbage production in their home, cutting
the volume of waste that potentially adding to landfills. Better if we can
reuse and recycle all appropriate materials or composting organic waste
sequesters nitrogen in a useful form instead of allowing it to escape into
the atmosphere as methane. The understanding about this should be
disseminated so the problems can be solved from the roots.
