Reconciled With God

But now he has reconciled you by Christs physical body through death to present you holy in his sight,
without blemish and free from accusation. Colossians 1:22

Introduction:

Imagine two friends who have a fight or an argument.

The relationship they enjoyed is strained to the point of
breaking. They cease speaking to each other; communication
is deemed too awkward. These friends suddenly become
stranger. Such estrangement can only be reversed by
reconciliation
To be reconciled is to be restored to friendship or
harmony. When old friends resolve their differences and
restore their relationship, reconciliation has occurred.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us
the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting mens sins
against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

The fact that we needed reconciliation with God means that our relationship with God was broken.
Since God is Holy, we are the ones to blame. And yet it is God who made a way for us to be reconciled with
Him, and that it good news.

OUR CONDITION

We must understand that we are separated from God. The chasm dividing us is both wide and deep.
We inherited a fatal defect at birth. As a result, we have lived our lives independently from Him. The Bible
emphasizes this stark reality. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). If we cant
come to grips with the fact that sin separates us from God, well never come home spiritually, for there is no
need for a saviour.

Sin Separates Us From Gods Presence, Not From His Love

The only thing that can separate us from God is sin. We are separated from His presence because sin
cannot stand in the presence of God. God is Holy. God cannot look down at sin nor can the sinners look up to
God because when it happens, death will take its tool instantly.
But here is the good news. We may be separated from His presence but not from His love. God always
loves us because He is love. It is His nature to love. The truth is, God wants us to live in His love forever. He
wants us to experience His love, His presence, and His blessings. Thats how He created us to be, to be in His
presence forever.

Romans 8:35-39 - Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer
through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able
to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Penalty Of Sin Is Death, But Grace Appeared To Give Us Life

Sin cannot go unpunished and the payment of sin is death. Death simply means separation. Three
kinds of death are mentioned in the scripture: spiritual death, physical death, and eternal death.

a. Spiritual Death it is the separation of mans spirit from God.

b. Physical Death It is the separation of human spirit and body.
c. Eternal Death It is the eternal separation from the glory of God.

Although sin is punishable by death, God gives us His grace that we might have life. Grace is
undeserved, unmerited, and unearned favour from God. Sin leads to death; grace leads to life.

Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Grace is a free gift from God, and it is by His grace, through our faith, that we gain salvation from death
and brings us our life again.

a. Spiritual Life new life in the spirit.

b. Physical Regeneration - given a new body at resurrection.
c. Eternal Life Live life eternally with God.

GODS REMEDY

The chasm that separates man from God cannot be bridged by human religion and self-righteousness.
Its not religion that can save us, its relationship with God. Its not self-righteousness that can save us, it is
Gods righteousness. The scripture tells us that it is by grace through faith that we can be saved, and nothing
could be added into it.

Ephesian 2:8 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is
the gift of God.

It is God who makes a way to bridge the gap between man and God by sending His own Son on the
cross as a ransom for our sins. Gods salvation may be free for us, but it cost Him His Son as payment.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that whosoever believes
in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

What Christ has done for us?

1. Christ was made sin that we might the righteousness of God.

2. Christ was bruised and whipped that we might receive healing and restoration.

3. Christ took all our shame that we might become bold in coming to God.

4. Christ took all our curses that we might be blessed by God.

5. Christ was rejected that we might be accepted before God.

6. Christ took all the punishment, judgment, anger, and wrath of God that we might live without fear of
being condemned.

7. Christ has suffered and died that we might have a life of abundant.

8. Christ took our entire place that we might take all His place.

OUR RESPONSE

Since God is offering us a way to be reconciled with Him, we must also decide to be reconciled with
Him. Our response is to repent, to believe and accept Jesus, our sin offering, in our hearts and in our life as
Lord and saviour.

Personal repentance is vital in the transformation process. Repentance literally means a change of
mind. It is to say to the Father, I want to turn toward you and away from the life Ive lived independently for
you. I am sorry for who Ive been and what I have done and I want to permanently change. I receive your
forgiveness for my sins.

Many at this point experience a remarkable washing from lifetimes accumulation of all that can
degrade a persons soul and spirit. Whether or not we sense Gods forgiveness, if we repent, we can be very
certain that were forgiven. Our confidence is based on Gods promise to us, not how we feel.

We come into personal relationship with the Lord when we make lifes greatest decision the turning
point referred to earlier. It is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the One who died for our sins, who was
buried and was raised from the dead and to receive Him as our saviour and Lord. When we believe in this
way, we become Gods children.

John 1:12 - To all who received him, to those who believed in His Name, he gave the right to become
children of God.

APPLICATION:

1. Gods way for us to be reconciled with Him is that He gave us the way to Him. Would you like to
walk in that way?

2. Salvation was given to all as a free gift. Would you like to receive this gift?
