The document discusses the materials, manufacturing techniques, and benefits of Dunlop conveyor belts for withstanding high stress in steep angle conveying applications.

Dunlop uses the latest computer-controlled equipment and techniques to precisely manufacture belts. It designs cross-stabilized base belts and uses high quality polyester fabrics and rubber covers. Its sidewalls and cleats are reinforced with fabric and hot vulcanized to the base belt.

Hot vulcanization creates a super-strong bond between the base belt and profiles. It allows belts to operate at higher temperatures with less sensitivity to drum diameter changes and temperature fluctuations.

Dunlop Sidewall Conveyor Belts are the toughest and most
durable sidewall conveyor belts in the world. They provide
outstanding operating lifetimes and low maintenance.
This also means that they provide exceptional value for
money. This brochure explains just how all this is achieved.
Firstly, only the very latest and most technically advanced
production equipment is used. Every possible aspect of the
preparation and actual production is computer controlled.
Nothing is left to chance. For example, our computer-operated
roughing machine ensures that the profile belt surface is
roughened precisely to the correct shape and depth needed
to attach sidewalls and cleats. This is essential to ensure
maximum bond strength.
Sidewall conveyor belts must be able to withstand the
extremely high stress and repeated flexing that occurs in

Thanks to Dunlops highly experienced and dedicated team of

engineers and rubber compound technicians, the days of
cleats being torn off and sidewalls becoming detached have
now been confined to history.
Most manufacturers continue to use the old fashioned and
highly unreliable cold glue methods to attach sidewalls and
cleats. But the secret behind the outstanding strength,
flexibility and durability of Dunlop Super Strenght sidewall
and cleated belts is that our sidewalls and cleats are attached
using a unique HOT vulcanisation technique using specially

high capacity steep angle conveying. That is why our crossstabilised base belts have been specifically designed by
Dunlop engineers using the highest quality polyester fabrics
to give higher rigidity values with very low elongation.
The rubber covers protecting the carcass have outstanding
abrasion resistance and tear strength.
Just as importantly, our sidewalls and cleats are manufactured
using Dunlop rubber, reinforced by a diagonal layer of fabric
that creates an excellent combination of elasticity and
strength. The use of reinforcement within the sidewalls
ensures maximum elongation (stretch) of the fabric at the
flexing points while retaining a high tensile strength. All of
these features add up to create sidewall belts that are more
durable, lower maintenance and longer lasting than any
other sidewall belt on the market.

designed base belts together with customized presses and

heating elements to create a homogeneous vulcanisation
between the profile and the base belt.
To obtain the strongest possible unification, our rubber
technicians developed compounds specifically for the hot
vulcanization process. The result has been a super-strength
bond between the base belt and the profiles. Additional
benefits of this special process are that the belts can be used
at higher temperatures, are less sensitive to smaller drum
diameters and can withstand more extreme climatic changes.
