Learning is like a boundless sea; only diligence can reach the shore.

Thus throughout our

entire lifetime we have to acquire multitudinous amount of knowledge & seek for the
accurate spheres to enforce the acquired knowledge for the greatest melioration of mankind.
Having this passion in mind, I am Tahmeed Shahriad, an engineering graduate from
Bangladesh; wish to pursue my higher studies in Electrical Engineering in order to devote
myself in service of humanity.
As I have been very much speculative about the topics of my interest from my early
childhood, the word experiment plays a vital role in my life. I used to possess an avid
interest towards various scientific researches in my early school life. As a result, I had an
austere intensity to contrive new findings of great scientific interest which agitated me to
come up with a number of splendid science projects. I won about 25 prizes for those
innovative projects. In 2007 I came up with a project entitled as Nuclear Technology
regarding Nanotechnology where I proved the physical existence of Alpha, Beta & Gamma
rays using Cloud Chamber, Spark Chamber & Geiger Muller Counter respectively. Eventually I
succeeded to evince how these nuclear radiation techniques could be used for the greatest
melioration of mankind in the fields of Medicine, Agriculture, Industries and Cancer
Treatment. I participated in the National Science Fair organized by Bangladesh Council of
Scientific & Engineering Research (BCSIR) with my project & obtained the 1st place
among 146 contestants. This achievement assured me the opportunity to represent my
country in the International Students Science Fair (ISSF)-2007 held in India. Because of
the evidenced characteristics of my project, I became a winner in the field of Electronics
Engineering & Nanotechnology in ISSF-2007 competing with 51 other nations.
My excellent result in secondary and higher secondary exams paved my way to join
Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology, one of the most prominent engineering
universities in Bangladesh and my fascination about the world of Sci-Tech drove me to the
department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering. From the very beginning I was much
interested in practical applications of the scientific theories; therefore I started spending
more time on my university laboratories. As a result my results on lab exams were far better
than theory courses. I worked on various projects such as voltage surge protecting system,
voltage stabilizer, mobile cellular security system etc. and came up with palatial findings. I
also attained more than 10 industrial tours organized by university authority, IEEE and
various engineering foundations on various top power generation & telecommunication
companies, to carry out my pursuit in achieving practical field knowledge & experiences.
Since I was extremely interested in my core departmental courses, my results got better on
my final years of graduation. I studied courses like Optical Fiber Communication, Mobile
Cellular Communication, Measurement & Instrumentation, Energy Conversion, Power System
Protection, and Telecommunication Engineering in my final academic years & I was
remarkably good on most of those courses.
My BSc. Thesis was entitled as Performance analysis of a Microwave Link using Space
Time Block Code (STBC) with Receiver Diversity. I analyzed the effect of Space Time
Block Code (STBC) over Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) on the performance of a
Microwave Link. Spacetime block coding is a technique used in wireless communications
to transmit multiple copies of a data stream across a number of antennas and to exploit the
various received versions of the data to improve the reliability of data-transfer. Succinctly,
STBC is a MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) transmit strategy which exploits transmit
diversity and high reliability. In data communication, exclusive use of QPSK results in a higher
amount of bit error rate. If data rate is increased, the performance rate increases and there is
a visible reduction in the bit error rate. But if the QPSK data and STBC data is compared, it is
clearly visible that after introducing STBC, the error rate decreased to a satisfactory level. I

designed the MATLAB code to decrease the Bit Error Rate (BER) and to increase the Signal
to Noise Ratio (SNR) by introducing STBC over QPSK. And the final simulation shows that
the SNR improves by doing so. Finally I worked on a research paper with my authoritative
findings regarding STBC. My research paper was approved in International Journal of
Scientific & Engineering Research (IJSER, ISSN-2229-5518) and was published on
Volume-4, Issue-11, November-2013. Right now I am working on a research paper
regarding application of nanotechnology on wireless communication & storage system
which includes the applications of Micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), carbon
nanotube tipped SPM and Graphene-based IC on the concerned field.
I completed my internship in Robi Axiata Limited, one of the leading mobile telecom
operators in Bangladesh. It is a joint venture company between Axiata Group Berhad of
Malaysia and NTT DoCoMo Inc. of Japan. With its strong network and seamless
connectivity, Robi is empowering more than 24 million people across the country. My posting
was in Radio Network Planning Department where I learned the techniques of Frequency
& Neighbor Planning using Asset & Aexio Xeus, Planning of different coverage & capacity
sites along with In Building Solutions (IBS), Technical Justification & Neighbor Audit,
Complain Management System (CMS) and Network Traffic Ticketing System (NTTS) etc. After
completing my internship, I joined Aamra Networks Limited, a prominent company
providing IT communication solutions. This job gave me the opportunity to gain skills on
Windows Server & Linux Server, IT infrastructure system, Video Conferencing Server, IP
Backbone Network Planning, Layer-2 & 3 protocols etc. At the same time, I joined Cisco
Certified Network Associate course conducted by American Int. University Bangladesh
to expand my knowledge in communication & networking.
I already mentioned that I am very much concerned about Nanotechnology & Nano
photonics from the very beginning and in the present age of revolution on Nanotechnology
& Nano photonics the prospect of conducting research in this field is immense. My country is
still lagging far behind in this field from the modern revolution in terms of knowledge &
experience. Highly educated & skilled Engineers can bring forward my country in this field
sharing their knowledge & expertise. I want to research on the applications of
Nanotechnology on wireless communication. So, my immediate goal is to obtain Masters
Degree in the concerned area and eventually higher studies at the Ph. D. level. I want to
return to my country after completion of my studies and want to join in the Research &
Development Department of any reputed company. In each & every possible way I want to
serve my country along with mankind through dissemination of my knowledge in an effective
way.
Louisiana Tech University is a highly reputed world class university in the fields of
Electrical Engineering, especially for Nanotechnology & Nano photonics. It offers state-ofthe-art research facilities in graduate programs with a view to producing highly capable
researchers proficient in modern sophisticated technology. It will be a fantastic opportunity
for me to be a part of the university and to participate in the palatial research works
conducted by Electrical Engineering department. I have communicated with Professor Dr.
Scott Shepard of Electrical Engineering Department as my field of interest is quite similar to
his field of research and he gave me the permission to mention his name on my SOP. So,
Louisiana Tech University is the best option for me to accomplish my goal and I am confident
that I would be able to make positive contributions to the researches of this University
utilizing my talent & aptness. Hence, I offer myself as a candidate for M.S. admission in
Electrical Engineering of Louisiana Tech University.
