Development of political science: Political science is first time introduced by the Greek
people. In the Eastern countries political science is mixed up with the religion and mythology but
Greeks first time introduced the political science as a separate science from the religion. The
term political science or politics is first derived from the Greek word POLIS it means City-State
or State. It deals with the problems of the state in which we live.
Nature of Political Science: Political science as a term is a complete term; it covers all the
aspects of the state and the related institutions i.e. principles, comparative and dynamics of
politics etc. across the states. Political science is related with the other social sciences. In this
field there is also so many approaches i.e. philosophical, historical etc.
The Traditional or Liberal View of Politics: The liberal view consider the politics as
the study of man, society, state, morality, etc. it emphasizes upon values and human welfare.
The Marxian View of Politics: Marxism puts emphasis on economic and social factors.
The working class needs to take control one state power and it requires revolution. So they favor
classless society, materialism, materialistic interpretation of history. The materialist history says
that economic production is prime reason of social change.
The Modern View: According to this theory power is the central concept to study in politics.
The modern view of politics is that it is a study of power. The people of modern political
scientists are of the view that politics is mainly concerned with conflict and controversy.
Distinction between Politics And Political Science: The theoretical concepts are
studied under political science whereas application or practical thing come under politics.
Scope of Political Science: A study of state and government: The state is the institution
under which government functions.
Horizons of Political Science: The expanding scope of political science includes research,
rationality, evaluation etc.
