The Eiffel Tower was built for the International Exhibition of Paris of 1889 commemorating the centenary
of the French Revolution. The Prince of Wales, later
King Edward VII of England, opened it. Of the 700
proposals submitted in a design competition, Gustave
Eiffels was unanimously chosen. However it was not
accepted by all at first, and a petition of 300 names
- including those of Maupassant, Emile Zola, Charles
Garnier (architect of the Opra Garnier), and Dumas
the Younger - protested its construction. At 300 meters
(320.75 m including antenna), and 7,000 tons, it was

A heart attack happens if the flow of oxygenrich blood to a section of heart muscle suddenly becomes blocked. Most heart attacks occur as a result
of coronary heart disease (CHD). CHD is a condition
in which a waxy substance called plaque builds up
inside of the coronary arteries. These arteries supply
oxygen-rich blood to your heart.
When plaque builds up in the arteries, the condition is called atherosclerosis. The build up of plaque
occurs over many years. Eventually, an area of
plaque can rupture (break open) inside of an artery.
This causes a blood clot to form on the plaques surface. If the clot becomes large enough, it can mostly
or completely block blood flow through a coronary artery.
If the blockage isnt treated quickly, the portion of
heart muscle fed by the artery begins to die. Healthy
heart tissue is replaced with scar tissue. This heart
damage may not be obvious, or it may cause severe
or long-lasting problems.

As the countrys largest national museum undergoes extensive renovation (the timeline for which has
been pushed out several times, most recently until
2012-13), the Rijksmuseum now showcases an abbreviated collection of 17th- and 18th-century Dutch works
of art in one wing of the massive Neo-Gothic building.
The Masterpieces exhibition takes visitors through an
evolution of the Dutch Golden Age, a time when the
Netherlands colonization and trade efforts made it the
worlds richest country. The collection features stunning samples of Delftware, silver and other artifacts,
as well as paintings by Dutch masters Rembrandt, Vermeer and Frans Hals. The museums imposing exterior
architecture alone is a sight worth seeing.

Hiroshige traveled to many beautiful places in
Japan. His woodblock prints are landscapes
mountains, fields, rivers with small human
figures. Hiroshiges pints suggest strong feelings
about these places. Secondly, Alexander
Calder was born in Philadelphia. First, he
studied engineering. At the age of 25, he went
to art school. Calder developed a new kind of
sculpture: the mobile. Mobiles hang from the
ceiling and move in interesting patterns. In many
of Calders mobiles, wires connect flat, colourful
metal shapes. And thirdly, Frida Kahlo was born
near Mexico City. At 15, she almost died in a bus
accident. For the rest of her life, she was disabled
and in pain. Soon after the accident, Kahlo taught
herself how to paint. Kahlo is especially famous
for herself-portraits. In these paintings, Kahlo
used bright colours and strange symbols to show
her feelings.
