The document discusses several vintage Russian lenses that were commonly used with rangefinder and SLR cameras like the Chaika, Zorki, and Fed.

The document discusses the Industar-69, Industar-50, Industar-61, Jupiter 11 lenses.

The Industar-69 lens has a focal length of 28mm, maximum aperture of f/2.8, resolution of 44/22 lines/mm, and angle of view of 56 degrees. It is best used between f/5.6-f/11.

The CHAIKA lenses

most people complain: why is there only one lens for my Chaika? --- sorry folks, you are wrong !
But to begin with let`s have a look on the standard lens Industar-69 first.
The name INDUSTAR has a history, that many people outside the former USSR may not know:
it is a combination of the words: indust the production of optical lenses was an industrial effort of
the first 5 year plan and the suffix -ar which derived from those famousGerman lenses like tessar
or elmar

The optical dessign of a Tessar lens is: 4 lenses in 3 groups and thats how the Industar-69 looks
like inside.

The Industar-69 lens was designed for the Chaika half-frame camera with framesize18x24 mm and
has aperture of 2.8 and a focal length of 28mm (which is adequate to ~43mm full-frame 24 x 36
mm ) and comes in M39 x 1 thread.
The working length of this lens is 27.5 mm !!!
NOW, keep this in mind, please. Working length (flange to focal plane distance ) of FED, Zorki and

Leica is 28.8 mm! ALAS: not compatible regarding infinity focus.

BUT! 1.3 mm is a so small difference we can handle that with many lenses for our CHAIKAS
else what do you want with a lens that is designed for half-frame on a full-frame camera? - unless
you like extreme bookeh and/or vignetting. It is a shame that so many Chaikas got raped ( taken
apart) for the profit sake of selling the lens to idiots that want a cheap wide angle lens which in
the end most of them don`t use!
With digitalmania this has got even worse now. The following link may show you what I`m talking
about:
http://www.zorkikat.com/industar-69-28mm/265/

This lens comes with an resolution of:

(Center/edge) 44/22 lines/mm
and has an angle of view of: 56.
Its weight is: 64 g
This lens is quiet good if use with aperture 5.6 8 11 , else it is too soft if you want large prints.

Vignetting at : 2.8

4 and 16

5.6 and 8 and 11

aperture

The original reason why this lens came in M39 thread was to use it on enlargers aswell which was
very common in the amateur photoscene of the 60`s and 70`s .
There are ( at least ) four versions of the industar-69 ! The first version that is used on the Chaika
1 is not removable.
Second version is the Industar-69 as we know it from Chaika 2, 3 and 2M and looks like this:

Third version says: Industar-69M !

Fourth version as shown on G. Abramov`s website was part of the reproduction unit:

Industar-50
This is a well known and wide spread standard lens for Russian SLR cameras which due its size is
called pancake lens. Maybe this is the smallest 50mm lens there is at all - but the sharpness is great.
With a flange of 45.2 (SLR) there was an adapter built as rear-part to use it as the standard M39,
3.5 / 50mm Zorki camera`s lens from on 1959. Like all Industars it is a 4 lens tessar type.

SLR version

rangefinder version

This lens comes with an resolution of:

(Center/edge) 38/22 lines/mm
angle of view is: 45.
Its weight is : 112 g

best sharpness and depth of field comes at aperture 8 and 11; but the complete range of usage makes
it a nice and high quality item.

Industar-61 (L/D)
A Tessar-type lens again. Originally designed for 24x36 full-frame cameras like FED and therefor
available in big quantities for relative little money.
This lens comes with different focal lengths between 52 and 55 mm, F=2.8. It has special glass
included rare earth element Lanthanum ( that`s what the L stands for).

This lens comes along with an resolution of:

(Center/edge) 42 45/28- 30 lines/mm
angle of view is: 45
weight is: 235 g

If you are interested in this lens - There are several versions and they where produced at 3 different
Factories FED in Karkov, KMZ or LZOS near Moscow:

"Industar-61", a regular lens for rangefinder cameras "FED-2", "FED-3, and FED-4
"Industar-61 l/d is a lens for rangefinder cameras of theFED-3", "4-FED, and FED-5".
Modification of the Industar-61 "
"Industar-61", a bayonet version for cameras with Central shutter "FED-10.
"Industar-61-w" for SLR cameras ( different working length ! - like 61-m but can be M39
aswell).
"Industar-61 m" for the cameras "Zenit" with the M42 1
