Decomposers, which include bacteria and fungi, are considered the ecosystem recyclers, since
they break organic matter down into inorganic matter such as mineral salts, which will be again
used as nutrients by plants. This way, the material returns to the beginning of the food chain. This
is why it is said that the flow of material is a closed cycle, because all of it is recycled without being
lost. However, the flow of energy is only one way, and it is lost as it goes though the trophic levels,
and this is why we can not find inverted energy trophic pyramids.

U
soil.
One reason for biodiversity loss is economic development, which includes intensive agriculture,
where big machines work in the fields. Their weight crushes the pores in the soil that should be
full of either water or air. As a result, the soil loses its ability to retain water and air. This means
roots cant penetrate very deeply, so the soil loses more and more organisms and organic matter.
Its a vicious circle where the worse it gets, the more biodiversity it loses, as the soil ecosystem
loses complexity.
