FADE IN:
SCENE 1.
INT. MARYS BEDROOM. BOSTON NIGHT OCTOBER 29 2016
Establishing shot of the city of Boston at night, then an
apartment. Mary OConnell is asleep in her bed. An unseen,
distorted voice begins to read out a hex, while a montage
plays of Mary, the moon, an altar, pages of a spell book,
etc.:
ANTAGONIST
Ibi fuerit iniquitas in me. Coniuro facere
iussus. Et oculos eorum, a turre custodum,
et per quatuor mentes. Et erit timor et
nocens reus sanguinis. Tibi erit dictum.
Te excaecari metus. Caecata dolor. Caecata
me. Vinctus a me. Maledictus a me. Sic
fiat!
CLOSE ON: MARY. As the last word of the spell is spoken, she
opens her eyes, awoken by some strange force. Looking around
her bedroom, she sees nothing strange, and tentatively goes
back to sleep.
FADE TO BLACK.
TITLE: SEASON OF THE WITCH
SCENE 2.
INT. MARYS BEDROOM.
CLOSE ON: ALARM CLOCK. Marys alarm goes off. She groggily
turns it off and stares at the ceiling for a few seconds
before getting out of bed to get ready and dressed.
CUT TO GETTING READY MONTAGE.
After getting dressed, Mary is sitting down at the kitchen
table for breakfast. She is reading a newspaper. She holds
up her left hand and an apple floats from the fruit basket
into her hand. She polishes it on her shirt and takes a
bite, her eyes never leaving the paper in her right hand.
CUT TO AFTER BREAKFAST.
She puts her coat on and leaves the apartment. As she exits
the building her cell phone rings. She answers.

MARY
Hello?
SOPHIE
Hey Mary. Sleep well?
MARY
(hesitating) Yeah pretty good. Whats up?
MED. ON: SOPHIE. SOPHIES APARTMENT. Cuts to Sophie
somewhere in the middle of Marys sentence. Shes holding
her phone to one ear and holding a pen with the other. Shes
looking at a planner.
(editing note: go back and forth during the conversation.
End with Sophie.)
SOPHIE
I just wanted to make sure we were still
on for Samhain this weekend.

Samhain
pronunciation:
SAH-win

MARY
Oh, for Halloween?
SOPHIE
(slightly annoyed) Two different things.
So, you in?
MARY
Yeah, of course. Uh, what about Lauren?
SOPHIE
Of course shes coming. She never misses a
holiday.
MARY
(chuckles) Yeah youre right. Listen, Ive
gotta catch this T so Ill talk to you
later, okay?
SOPHIE
Sure thing. See ya.

SCENE 3.
Sophie hangs up the phone. She checks her watch for the
time. She gets up from the table, puts on her jacket and
walks over to an altar. She lights a stick of incense. She
turns on her phone and opens a candle app. She sprinkles
some water over the surface of the table.
SOPHIE
On this test I take today, I will receive
no less than A. Earth, wind, fire, and
sea, As I say, so mote it be.
As she finishes the spell, the doorbell rings. Sophie
quickly crushes out the incense, grabs her bag and phone,
and runs out the door.
SCENE 4
EXT. OUTSIDE SOPHIES APARTMENT. DAY.
MED. WIDE ON: LAUREN. Leaning against the outside wall. She
holds up a cigarette to her mouth, and lights it with just
her thumb. She sees Sophie come outside and the two start
walking down the street.
LAUREN
Finally. What were you doing?
SOPHIE
Sorry. I did a quick spell for this chem exam I
have. Oh, I spoke to Mary. Shes in.
LAUREN
(confidently) Course she is. I have a
feeling that its gonna be the best
Samhain yet.
SOPHIE
Of course you do. Youre planning it.
The two girls walk off screen.
SCENE 5.
CUT TO:

INT. TRAIN CAR.

CLOSE ON: MARY. Shes on the T. She looks deep in thought,
like shes trying hard to remember something. Flashes from
her face to glimpses of the hex scene.
(editing note: if there is time, get a shot of the sunset,
or something else to establish time passing from day to
night.)
SCENE 6.
CUT TO:
INT. MARYS APARTMENT. NIGHT.
Mary is getting ready for bed. She leaves her bedroom and
walks towards the bathroom. Her bedroom door slams shut. She
jumps, and turns around to look. Seeing nothing, she
continues down the hall to the bathroom.
As she washes her face, she suddenly looks closer at the
mirror, as if she saw something out of the corner of her
eye, and suddenly the mirror cracks. Mary yells out in
surprise.
CUT TO:
Next she is in bed, asleep. Her sheets begin to move
seemingly by themselves. A shadow of a person can be seen on
her door, but there is no one there casting the shadow. As
the shadow disappears, Mary wakes up, unnerved, as if she
sensed something.
She goes in the living room and starts grabbing various
herbs from the shelves. She turns the kettle on.
Mary places a bowl, the kettle, the herbs, salt, some
crystals, three candles, some incense, and a lighter on the
floor.
She pours the hot water into the bowl. Then she adds the
herbs.
She draws a circle of salt around the bowl, and places the
crystals inside the circle around the bowl.
She places two of the candles on either side of the bowl
inside the salt circle and places the third opposite her on
the other side of the bowl, inside the circle. She lights
them all. Then she lights the incense. She closes her eyes
5

for a few seconds, concentrating. Her necklace begins to

glow subtly, then fades.
Satisfied, she returns to her bedroom.
SCENE 7.
CUT TO:
INT. MARYS APARTMENT. NEXT DAY. Lauren and Mary are
discussing Samhain logistics for the following day at the
kitchen table. There are books open and splayed out all over
the table. Lauren is making a checklist.
LAUREN
Okay, so were starting the nature walk at
9. Were meeting at the corner of
Arlington and Boylston. Well make our way
over to the cemetery and at 10 well make
our offerings. I figured you have some
dried herbs we could use. Ill bring
drinks, I guess. Id make a potion but I
dont have time today.
MARY
Yeah thats fi- wait. Since when do you
make potions?
LAUREN
What are you talking about? Dont you
remember my tonic of confidence?
MARY
(incredulously) That was just vodka.
LAUREN
Yeah. It worked, didnt it?
MARY
(sarcastically) Youre hilarious. Moving
on. Okay, whats after the offering?
LAUREN
Then we come back here and setup the
Ancestor Table. And thats pretty much it.
6

Lauren looks at her phone.

LAUREN
Sorry, but I need to go. I promised Sophie Id
help her research hypoallergenic familiars. You
know, I think she might be the first witch ever
with a cat allergy.
MARY
(laughs)You may be right. See you
tomorrow.
LAUREN
Yeah, see you.
Lauren leaves.
SCENE 8.
CUT. NIGHT.
Mary is on the couch watching TV. The light from the TV is
the only light source and it illuminates her. She is already
dressed for bed. Then her door creaks open. Mary looks in
the direction of the sound. When her head is turned, the TV
changes to just static. Its very loud. Mary looks back at
the TV. She presses the change channel button on the remote
but nothing happens. She gets up, annoyed, and presses the
off button. Nothing happens again. Fed up, she reaches
behind the TV to pull the plug. She pulls it out of the
socket. The static remains. She stares at the TV confused.
Then her door slams shut. As it closes, the TV shuts off.
Mary goes to the bathroom and splashes some water on her
face. The mirror is covered in plastic. She dries her face
and pauses at the sink, contemplating something. A moment
later, she walks back to the living room, picks up her phone
and opens Sophies contact. Mary thinks about calling, but
eventually decides not to.
CUT.

MARYS BEDROOM. NIGHT. Mary is in bed. Her door creaks

by itself. She doesnt wake. Then her leg begins to
to the edge of the bed. She is pulled off the bed by
invisible force and she wakes up. She scrambles and
7

sits up, looking at the open door. Then she is dragged out
into the hallway by her ankle. She screams and scrambles to
find something to hold on to. She hangs on to the edge of
the door, but eventually gets pulled off screen, still
screaming. We hear a struggle, then see a bright light come
from the other room. Then footsteps. Mary reappears, running
into the bedroom and slamming the door shut, breathing
heavily. She grabs a container of salt off her shelf,
quickly draws a line at the threshold of her door. She does
the same to the windows.
She grabs her phone off of her nightstand and dials Sophie.
The phone rings. Sophie answers.
MARY
(still breathing heavily, sighing in
relief when she answers) Sophie, thank
god. I need you and Lauren over here now.
A ghost or spirit or something just
dragged me out of bed. I mean, weird
things have been happening here for a few
days, but what just happened was on a
whole new level.
SOPHIE
Whoa. Mary, slow down. Are you okay?
MARY
Yeah, Im fine. But I did a cleansing
spell last night and apparently it did
nothing. I need your help.
SOPHIE
Right. Well be right over.
CUT.
SCENE 10.
Mary is waiting in her room. The doorbell rings. Mary looks
up.
CUT.
Mary opens the door and Sophie and Lauren enter.

LAUREN
So cleansing didnt work. Must be pretty
powerful.
MARY
Yeah. Lets just do a protection spell for
now to buy us some time to figure out a
way to get rid of this thing, whatever it
is.
SOPHIE
Yeah, maybe we should figure out what it
is first.
MARY
Fine, but after the spell.
LAUREN
Alright, lets do it.
CUT.
SCENE 11.
The girls gather and sit in a circle on the floor. Sophie
pulls out some crystals. Mary puts down the bowl filled with
water, the candles, and the salt. After Sophie and Mary
place the objects, Lauren waves her hand and the candles
ignite.
LAUREN, SOPHIE, MARY SIMULTANEOUSLY
When in the circle that is home, safetys
gone and evils roam. Rid all beings from
these walls, save us sisters three now
heed our call.
LAUREN
Cool. What now?
SOPHIE
What about a scrying spell?

MARY
That might work hang on.
Mary gets up and gets her scrying bowl. She fills it with
water. While stirring the water, she chants:
MARY
Dea lunae sidera, concede mihi beneficium
simplex. Ostende mihi quid videatur,
ostenderes mihi quid futurum sit.
As she finishes, those same visions flash in Marys mind of
whoever cast the hex in the first place.
After struggling for a few moments, Mary opens her eyes.
MARY
Dammit. They shielded themselves.
SOPHIE
So another witch?
LAUREN
Maybe. We can worry about whos
responsible later. We need to fix Marys
ghost problem first.
SOPHIE
It might not even be a ghost!
LAUREN
Fine. Spirit, demon, whatever. Can we
please just get rid of it already?
MARY
I think I have an idea for how to do that.
CUT.
Mary opens a spell book and turns to a page.
LAUREN
Whoa. Thats a pretty powerful spell.

10

MARY
Well, this is one pretty powerful ghost.
Spirit. Thing.
LAUREN
Yeah, one problem. Says here this can only
be performed on a night with a full moon.
SOPHIE
Thats not a problem. Theres one tomorrow
night.
LAUREN
Wow. Thats convenient. (looks into the
camera like shes on The Office)
CUT TO:
SCENE 12.
INT. MARYS APARTMENT. THE NEXT NIGHT.
The girls are preparing for the spell.
Witchy Woman begins to play.
SOPHIE
(Organizing some crystals) Will you change
the song please?
LAUREN
(standing by the speaker) What? Its
funny.
SOPHIE
No its not.
LAUREN
Fine.
Changes song.
CUT TO. Preparation montage.

11

MARY
Okay. You guys ready?
SOPHIE
As well ever be.
MARY
Lauren, youre better at these kind of
things and Im too nervous. Can you lead?
LAUREN
With pleasure.
The girls perform the ritual.
LAUREN
Jam tibi impero et pracecipio maligne
spiritus! Ut xonfestim allata et circulo
discedas, absque omni strepito, terrore,
clamore et foetore, asque sine omni damno
mei tam animae quam corporis, absque omni
laesione cujuscunque creaturae vel rei; et
ad locum a justissimo tibi deputatum in
momento et ictu oculi abeas; et hind
proripias.
When she finishes speaking, a bright light fills the
room. Sophie and Mary are fine, but Lauren makes a
pained face. The light dissipates.
SOPHIE
Wow. That feltMARY
Incredible. Im pretty sure the spell
worked. The place definitely feels
different somehow. I cant explain it.
SOPHIE
No, I know what you mean.
LAUREN
Well, it looks like were done here.

12

CUT.
SCENE 13.
SOPHIE AND LAUREN ARE LEAVING.
MARY
Thanks again, you guys.
SOPHIE
Of course.
LAUREN
(smiling) Any time.
Sophie and Lauren walk out of the apartment. As Sophie exits
in front, she speaks.
SOPHIE
Overall, a pretty good Samhain.
LAUREN
Oh, yes. I agree completely.
As Lauren speaks, her eyes change from their normal color to
fully black. She smiles.
CUT TO BLACK.
