Indias

political evolution science independence presents an untidy picture but one

which can best described as the emergence of a Market polity. Within Indian political, states
have been playing a very important role in political development. The electoral of the Indian
states have been adding substantially political development since 1980s. in particular, Since
independence the state of Andhra Pradesh has been playing a dominant role in Indian political

development. It has become a trendsetter in Indian political process, thus contributing to the
political development. Late Sri N.T. Rama Rao, the founder president of Telugu Desam party
(TDP) served as a catalyst in organizing the non-congress opposition conclaves in the eighties.
This paved the way for the formation of the National Front government led by V.P.Singh at New
Delhi . Thus for the first time , some regional parties , including Telugu Desam Party participated
at National level and became active in the national political process, thus contributing political
development. Political parties form an integral of the politics and public life of the nation.
Concept of political system has acquired wide currency as it directs attention to entire
scope of political activities within the society. Political system includes the study of
governmental institutions such as legislatures, courts and administrative agencies in terms of
political aspects. It also includes traditional structures such as kinship ties and caste groupism as
well as organizations like parties interest groups and the media.Rulers realize that unless their
policies and and programmes are generally in accordance with public opinion, there is no chance
of being re-elected. Hence paries forms the manifesto to win the public opinion. Party is an
organized opinion, the mo0dern parties have the longest continuous history and party is more
than that it evolved as an institution. The role of party as an institution is to win the political
power and excise it. Parties are the inescapable necessities of the democratic system. It get
masses into the political community. The eighteenth century three-fold division of governmental
powers takes no account of political parties as organs of government because parties of the
contemporary type did not exist. Party system has became an indispensable factor in the working
of in representative form of government. It is a link between people and the representative
machinery of the government. In democracy party system drives the individuals and the group to
secure political power. Political parties exist in differing forms in various political system. The
concept of political party has changed from year to year. Edmnd Burke, H.J.Laski are among
those who have analyzed the concept of political party. According to Burke party is a body of
men united for promoting by their joint endeavors the national interest upon some particular
principal in which they all are united.
1. POLITICAL HISTORY OF THE PARTY:
The Telugu Desam Party was formed in March by Sri Nandamuri Taraka Rama
Rao( popularly known as N.T.R), a former star and director of Telugu language in

Andhra Pradesh. The TDP espoused no specific ideology except for its
commitment for safeguarding the political, economical, social and cultural
foundations of telugu peopleThe Telugu Desam Party (TDP), roughly translated
as Telugu Land and Peoples Party, is a regional political party, as approved by
the Election Commission of India. Its mass base is primarily in the southern state
of Andhra Pradesh in India at the time of formation of the party the partys major
rolr is oust the Indian national congress(congress) from the state government.
Under NTRS leadership the TDP quickly emerged as significant political force in
the state of Andhra Pradesh. The combination of his charisma and oral skills with
partys populist measures produced a landslide victory for TDP-affliated
independent candidates in 1983 Andhra Pradesh state assembly elections and
NTR became the chief minister of the state of Andhra Pradesh. After the death of
NTR, it was the person N.Chandra Babu Naidu became the head of the party. He
continued to strengthen the party and in 1996 elections to the loksabha, the tdp
won a total of 16 seats. Presently the chairperson of the Telugu Desam Party is
Nara Chandra Babu Naidu who took over the party after the death of NTR in
1955. The TDP has formed the government twice from 1983-1989 and from
1994-2004 and at present from 2014. The election symbol of TDP is Bicycle it
is usually drawn on yellow colored background. The colour yellow used to depict
the TDP, has immense symbolism, as it denotes what the party stands for. The
election symbol of the bicycle coupled with the yellow background is used to
indicate that the TDP by its simple measures and welfare policies, will bring
happiness and prosperity to the Telugu speaking people and all majority sections
of the population across the state. After the state bifurcation the chief minister
Nara Chandra Babu Naidu bought many policies, schemes, welfare programmes
to the development of the state and to attract investors for the industrial
development of the newly formed state of Andhra Pradesh.
2. PARTY AGENDA:
For any political party there will be an agenda to get into power. In order to
get the power the political parties releases a manifesto. Manifesto is nothing

but promises made by the parties to the people at the time of elections in
order to gain the power. The party has an agenda to gain the power in the
state of Andhra Pradesh. Promising to eliminate the economic inequalities,
the Telugu Desam Party, in its manifesto promised to implement a slew of
measures aimed at empowering every section of society. The manifesto for
Andhra Pradesh will lay emphasis on reconstruction of the state to ensure
that problems on account of bifurcation were resolved. Infrastructure
development, port based industries and value addition to agriculture produce
would form some of the trust areas of manifesto which would elaborate on
how the TDP planned to make the new a state a competitive investment
destination.
Since the formation of the party, it has been a pioneer in battle
for the protection of poorest of the poor in their fight against corruption
public life, menace of liquor and atrocities on women and children besides
promotion of health, education, livelihood through welfare schemes like RS.2
rice scheme etc..,
