Expressing of sympathy
The definition of sympathy Expression :
Sympathy Expression is an expression or feeling of
pity and sorrow when we know and see someone or
people are unlucky or have trouble and in bad
condition .By expressing sympathy we want to show
our concern or carefulness on other people s
condition.
How can we give sympathy expression to someone :
We express it directly to him/her orally or we can
use a letter or card by post also by short message
service ( sms ), e-mail,television ,radio ,and
newspaper if he /she who got the trouble is far from
us.
There are some expressions to show our sympathy to
other people. Some of the examples are shown
below.
Oh, I am sorry to hear
that
Thats too bad
What a pity of you !
Be patient, it would be better soon

I take my sympathy to you


I sympathize with your condition
I know how is your feeling
It would be OK soon.
There are also some responses to accept sympathy
from other people. Here the examples.

Sample Dialogue Expressing Sympathy
Here is an example of dialogue
express sympathy ( expressing
sympathy ) .

Rina : Hi , Doni . What's up ? You
look so sad .

Doni : Yea , my grandpa Died last


night .
Rina : Really ? I'm sorry to hear
that .
Doni : Thanks .
Rina : If I 'm not mistaken , he is
in Bandung , right ?
Doni : Yes . We have not visited
him yet .
Rina : Does your family plan to go
to Bandung ?
Doni : Yes . Tonight. We are going
to leave for Bandung .
Rina : Oh , I hope your family will
be fine .
Doni : Thanks a lot , Rina .
In a conversation between Rina and
Doni at the top there is an
expression of sympathy ( expressing
sympathy ) that " I'm sorry to hear
that . " Rina states participate in
mourning over the death of his
grandfather Doni .

UNDERSTANDING THE INVITATION


I. SUMMARY OF THE
Invitation is the text in the form of
solicitation or invitation, so that all the
text in which there is an expression of
solicitation may be called "invitation".
Invitation may appear in the text
"announcement", "short message ','
letters', etc.
The invitation-ungakapan expression is:
a. I invite you to come .........
Example: I invite you to come to my
birthday party, this afternoon (2:00 pm)
in my house, jl. Youth 67 Klaten.
b. Come to ......... ..
Example: Come to the classmeeting on Friday, November 23th 2007
in our
school at 4:00 pm. Come on
time!

Example: I would like to invite you to
Participate in the English contest that
will be held next Monday, November
26th 2007 in SMP 1 Surakarta.

Example: I hope for coming in the

meeting in order to prepare our

room.

Invitation / invitation requires
an answer / reply, either accept the
invitation or
reject the invitation.

Questions usually appear in the

to the invitation. By understanding the
question correctly, then the bias you
answer correctly.

D. When and How Long: When and How
long is the event?
- When does the party begin / stop?
(when the party start / end?)
- When will the party be held? (When
the party will be held?)
- How long does the party Happen?
(How long the party lasts?)
Consider the question "When: when and
How long: how long"
When asked when the incident took
place / started / ended. The answer can
be: year, month, week, day or hour.
While the "how long" ask how long span
of time the incident took place. So the
answer is: Two hours, sixty minutes, two
days, three months, etc.
For example:
When will the meeting be held?

- The meeting will be held on Sunday,


July 12nd, 2009.
How long does the meeting take place?
- The meeting takes place for Five days.
Understand also vocabulary associated
with time:
- Am (Anti Meredium) started after at 12
am - 12 noon
(12:01 night - 12.00pm)
- Pm (post Meredium) starts after 12 pm
- 12 pm
(12:01 noon - 12 pm)
- Morning: morning (until 12 am)
- Noon / Midday: noon / noon (- +
12.am-1pm)
- Afternoon: afternoon (12:01 pm to
about 6 pm)
- Evening: evening / night (After 6.pm times to go bed /
arrived bedtime)
- Night: night (When it was time to
sleep)

- Midnight: Midnight (about 12:00 pm-01
