Ch 1 - Introduction
Chapter 1 - Introduction
The Jackpot Trigger Device 3 (JPTD3) is a digital, programmable board with two relays that
activate peripheral devices for visual or audio output.
The specific output activated and how that output is activated is determined by signals
received from the controller and by how the JPTD3 is configured. Figure 1.1 below shows
how the JPTD3 relates to the rest of the progressive system.

Operation Modes
The JPTD3 has two operating modes:
Operational mode is the main application. In this mode, the JPTD3 receives input
from the Controller and sends output to the relays to activate visual or audio devices.
The JPTD3 defaults to Communication mode upon power up. Follow the procedure in
Configuration Instructions on page 11 to access Configuration mode.

Installation Instructions
The Jackpot Trigger Device 3 is shipped installed on a mounting bracket. The JPTD3 can be
mounted securely on a flat surface with two sheet metal screws, or can simply be placed in a
clear area inside the device. Install the JPTD3 in the desired location and follow the
instructions below.
1. Connect the power cord to the power supply.
2. Connect the power cord barrel-plug to the JPTD3 at J1.
3. Install the communication line connection:
a.
Remove approximately one to two inches of the cable jacket from the necessary
length of the 20-22 gauge two-conductor cable.
b. Crimp wires into the female connector so that the wire you designate as negative
connects to pin 1 at J5 and the wire you designate as positive connects to pin 2 at
J5.

Configuration Options
This section lists the configuration options in the order they appear, as well as their
descriptions, available values, and the defaults for each configuration option for the JPTD3.
The Jackpot Trigger Device 3 has been completely redesigned and has new labels for each
configuration option. Do not associate previous versions of the JPTD, its labels, or meanings
to this new product as some labels may seem similar but have different meanings.

Ch 4 - JPTD3 Configuration
Protocol represents the supported protocol, which is a type of interface or language the
JPTD3 uses to communicate. Protocol selection affects the entire menu, such that different
sets of subordinate menu items are available depending on which of the following protocols
you select.
The Group Number determines the progressive jackpot link to which the relay is assigned.
This value defaults to 255 for both the CHAMII (CHAM2) and CasinoLink (CASLINK)
protocols.
ID ADDRESS (ADDR)
This configuration option only appears for the CHAM2 protocol selection. ADDR has a
value range of 1 - 64, used to identify the JPTD3. The ID address number assigned to the
JPTD3 is the same identification number that the controller uses for the device on which it is
installed. ADDR is a second piece of device addressing information that, when combined
with GROUP, allows the JPTD3 to address and support more devices.
The CHAMII (CHAM2) protocol is limited to 64 devices and a value range of 1 - 64. Values
1 - 63 are used to address devices. Value option 64 is reserved for the overhead device.
Machine ID (MACH#)
This configuration option only appears for the CASLINK protocol selection. This option is
to identify the machine in which the JPTD3 resides. The machine ID or serial number option
allows for up to an 8-digit value to be entered. This option uses SW2 to advance to each digit
placeholder. This value defaults to blank.
15

Ch 4 - JPTD3 Configuration
The value options for these settings are ALL or a number in the range of 1 to 8. If ALL is
selected, then a jackpot hit in any progressive jackpot level activates a celebration event. These
options both default to a value of 1.
Relay Idle State Configuration (R1 IDLE or R2 IDLE)
The idle configuration option instructs the JPTD3 how to behave while in an idle state. The
values for this option include OFF and FLASH. The default value for this option is OFF. The
value selected for this option affects the values available for the Relay Jackpot option. The
value selected for this option will not be available for the Relay Jackpot option.
Relay Jackpot Celebration (R1 JACK or R2 JACK)
The jackpot configuration option instructs the JPTD3 how to behave when a jackpot is won.
The available options are ON, OFF, FLASH or PULSE depending on the option selected for
when the relay is idle.
The value selected for the relays idle state cannot match the same value for the
Relay Jackpot option. If OFF is selected for R1 IDLE then OFF does not appear
for R1 JACK. If FLASH is selected for R1 IDLE, FLASH does not appear as an
option for R1 JACK.
This menu option only appears if PULSE or FLASH is selected as a Relay Jackpot option. If
the Relay Idle option is set to ON and the Relay Jackpot option is set to PULSE or FLASH,
this option needs to be set to tell the JPTD3 how many seconds the PULSE or FLASH
should remain on.
Relay Time Out (R1 TIME OFF or R1 TIME OFF)
This menu option only appears if PULSE or FLASH is selected as a Relay Jackpot option. If
the Relay Idle option is set to OFF and the Relay Jackpot option is set to PULSE or FLASH,
this option needs to be set to tell the JPTD3 how many seconds the PULSE or FLASH
should remain off.

Ch 4 - JPTD3 Configuration
This configuration option needs to be set in order to determine the maximum amount of
time for the celebration event. Some setups do not send a signal to the JPTD3, indicating
when the Jackpot celebration has concluded. This option ends the celebration after a
determined amount of time (in seconds).
Minimum Celebration Time (MIN CEL)
A Minimum Celebration Time needs to be set in order to ensure the celebration is not over
too quickly. As stated in the previous option, some setups do not send a signal of completion,
others send the signal as soon as it occurs. This option ensures that the celebration occurs for
at least a determined amount of time (in seconds).
